How can people with crappy computers hope to play 4v4 or 5v5 ? I mean, I do have a laptop with C2D, and I limit myself to 3v3 in order to keep the game at least at +5 for everyone !

What kind of computer does it take to actually hit 0 simspeed in 5v5?  Even my second pc which is a c2d @ 3.15 + 8800 gt doesnt come close to having problems, and graphics are cranked @ 1680x1050.  Are we talking athlon xp 3000+?  p4 3.0ghz? Athlon x2 3800?  Maybe one of the above offenders could let us know.

 

Ps: the cleaner is at -1 while others are still in high sim speed.  He must be using a 486 or something :(

I reckon you have to be using the absolute minimum system reqs to hit negative simspeed.

Actually you don't. There's a fairly common problem with sound cards/drivers which cause low sim speeds in DG on otherwise good hardware.

I have an Athlon X2 4600+, Geforce 8800GT, Asus A8NSLI-deluxe and got negative simspeed on lowest graphic settings... until I updated the drivers for my onboard sound card. Now I can play with high simspeed on high settings in 4v4 or 5v5.

I have an Athlon X2 4200+ and Geforce 8800GT.. I can play fine in all 3v3 maps, leviathan and exile but 5v5 maps and the brothers are offlimit for me: it usually starts at 4-5 sim speed and reaches -1, -2 in no time :(. I know that and simply not join customs in those maps. The problem however is in pantheon/skirmish where i cant control the selection of the map..

Lowering graphic settings makes no difference (as the gpu is quite good), i'll try with the /nosound parameter but thats not really a great solution ..

EDIT: Ok, i tried the nosound setting but it only increases simspeed by ~1 point .. I really think its time to change the cpu (and mobo, inevitably) :/

How strange. I don't even HAVE a sound card and my simspeed is always at least 6... but then, I play 2v2's. And I've got a GeForce 9600 so at least that side of the spectrum is well taken care of.

I have played w/ Linker 7 befor and yeah he turned my game into slow-mo.

 

Like literal slow-mo to ... like as if it was a option to set "Slow-Motion" lol.

So you guys are gonna discriminate against people who can't afford better hardware?... sounds like a great idea. On top of that -1 or 0 sim speed is not that slow. I was under the impression the game runs at 0 sim speed regardless and only slows down when someone gets below 0 simspeed.

Um then you must not hit that one key on your keyboard ...

Opens the scoreboard and if you notice majority of people that have decent PCs have higher than "0" sim speed. Which is good ... people pulling 0 at the beggining of game = -3 when shit starts going on and then it slows everyone down.

 

So yes we will discriminate against people who can't afford better hardware...

 

Lets go race .. ill race in my 2003 sunfire against some corvette .... i bet he will have alot of fun racing me cuz im such a threat and might win!...... /sarcasm

 

Again my moto : The internet doesn't make anything different than the real world. You wouldn't try that anywhere else so why here?

It's for the good of everyone.  People who can't run the game well drag everyone down due to the way the game was designed. (A flaw imo, but what can you do)

You'd discriminate against something popping a 2000 ping all the time because they'd lag you.  Low sim speed people do the exact same thing.

I understand where everyone is comming from, and if someone has 0 simspeed at the beginning then it will get unbeararable towards the end.

However, if someone has 0 or -1 sim speed at the end where we have like a million creeps and big flashy effects, I am not gonna hold it against them.

Mmm. Not that ive ever seen so you can SAY it does but everytime ive seen "0" or lower. Its always choppy and laggy. ALWAYS.

SO i go with experience ...

Well, looks ilike I will be on this list soon and unable to enjoy the game.
