Default Hosting Port (possibly an issue?)

When player a game an hour ago, I noted that the game said "hosted through port 6073". Now, in the manual and in posts, it is mentioned that Demigod will be using ports 6100-6200 and people need to open them up if they have problems. The Impulse reactor is also attunted to that range as far as I know, 6073 is not in that range, could that be causing some issues to people with limited internet traffic?

This happens in Custom Games and probably also in Pantheon if it set by default. Also, when during hosting "Auto-port" is turned off and a specific port is chosen, the game still settles at 6073.

Just throwing it out there, could be a source of a problem for someone.

THIS IS DEFINITELY AN ISSUE. READ THIS, AND LINK THIS TO EVERYBODY YOU KNOW... NOW!

After hearing about the router issues, the first thing I did was forward 6100 through 6200. However, in almost every custom game I tried to join (too impatient for Pantheon or Skirmish. They take forever to find a match and frequently disconnects players but I have had no problems with custom games) I recieved an error. After hosting a couple of games, I unchecked Auto-Port and saw port 6073 as the default port, so I tried to forward 6073. Lo and behold, all my problems playing Demigod online were gone afterwards. It helped me a lot and my experiences have been great.

That is a story of one of my friends, he did a port opening of 6000-6200 and everything went a lot better (many more games joined). Let's get the word out to developers then, see what they think.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... but it was my understanding that it uses port 6073 simply to setup the game.  In other words it is publishing the new game's information to DG via port 6073, not hosting it on 6073.  As soon as players are connecting it uses different ports and whatnot via peer-to-peer networking.  I've even been told it's like 6100-65535.  I've tried port fowarding just about every range and even tweaked the Impulse stuff (via ImpulseReactorOptions.exe).  I didn't see much difference so I actually removed it all and went back to default puting my trust back into the game.

They've said that the goal of multiplayer is to allow anyone to be a host or join a game without having to tweak or do anything with port forwarding.  I think this is a great concept and I'm sure we'll all enjoy it as soon as they work out all the kinks.  For the most part I don't have very many connection problems for custom games.  I haven't tried anything else though which I suspect is where a lot of people are having problems.

=D

I did the same and had the same problems.

I can play in some games, hosting can be trouble most of the time though.

btw.. here is the request from Frogboy, Stardock:

One request I do have for the community: While we know statistically that multiplayer is working in most cases, there are a lot of people who cannot connect. Please refrain from telling users that they need to learn how to use their router or whatever. The fact is, people shouldn’t have to configure their routers to play a video game. We do ask those who are having problems to have as much patience as they can muster. Both Stardock and GPG are doing their best to make the multiplayer experience good for everyone.
