Really hating the community of this game

It really ruins the fun of multiplayer when you have a teammate cursing at you and doing the normal elitist activities.  Would be great if you could ignore players.  Especially on your own damn team, I dont play games to get abused, I play them to relax and have fun.

Perhaps you mean you really hate that teammate, not the community?  Or are you naturally predisposed to hyperbole?

Not that it helps, but I've found this community to be the best of all the games I play, followed a close second by the Sins community.  Could it be the leadership tone set by Stardock?  My vote is yes.

They are working on various filtering/karma options that will give you the option of not allowing those people to play with you.

I've only had one bad apple online, because I was killing him with UB in a matter of seconds, late game. (imagine that, the burst demi-god BURSTING YOU DOWN) It may also be the connection stuff is bad so people aren't happy that when they play they end up playing someone much better then them.

It's agreed that DOTA has the one of the worst communities ever.  A lot of DOTA players naturally are interested in this game.  You probably had a DOTA player for your teammate. :P

First of all, welcome to the internet. I hate it as well. Worse grouping of people ever, eh?

Second of all, it may not be the usual "random hate". I'd imagine a pro baseball team would be upset if you tried batting by poking the ball instead of swinging or doing something else completly ridicious.

No, we're not playing pro baseball. I know. The point is most people want a good game. When newer players are feeding the enemy team, walking around with 100 hp, and other idiotic things, it maks it hard to compete, let alone win. After a bit, there's just no point in playing. You can't vs 3 by yourself, your team is useless and helping the enemy more than you, and you basically wait another hour or so doing nothing while you get yelled at for being an afker.

Anyone would be upset. The correct way to react would be to offer advice. Sure, they should of played single player to get the hang of the game first, but whatever. Too late now. I, for example, offer advice such as "Hey, there's a snipe reg and you have 300 hp silly TB! Go heal!"

Usually, people react somewhat like what you are saying. "Stop being elitist, stop telling me what to do, blabhagaekjgaekfbaekbfgkaefb!". This lumps them with the first group of people. Anyway, after they die from a snipe after reg snipes a creep 3 times by mistake, they say he's over powered and bitch or leave or just giggle and go back to feed him some more.

Point being, I think we should encourage teamwork rather than hitting ignore on other players. Because that's probably a sure way to lose. Of course, if you want to ignore another player in the first place, chances are you're not going to win in the face of a team that works together.

Not the forums for say @ Keno, this is the 2/3 games I have played online had these bad seeds.  Partially because I am not good at the game yet lol.  So they try to get me to do what they want me to do by cursing me out, calling me a noob, saying I should die, bla bla bla.

Oh no I completely agree, if someone did it in a mature way.  But when they come out negatively I really don't want to listen to them.

You have idiots like that in every game. Unfortuately, with RTS pairing you with only one person rather than a whole team like in other genres, idiots are more likely to open up and blame their teammate directly than simply screaming at their monitor that "their team sucks and they are teh gods of the internet", in private. Especially if you're playing ranked games, in which case expect every 9.5 out of 10 players you're paired with to be egotistical maniacs who care more about a quick win and addition to their score than the game.

Possibly I havn't played an RTS online since Red Alert 2.  I run into idiots on LIVE and in other games but its much more rare.  Usually in other games its verbal aggro from the loosing team lol

There also needs to be a function that lets you flag people that do not chat at all in game, and do not take any constructive criticism. The ones that don't have a sense of humor are the worst though. I must say, please let me redflag these types of people so I do not get into pug's with them.

How about people not leaving games... WOW

I've yet to see any cursing or elitist activities. Could be I'm just lucky though, but so far the community's been really nice compared to many other games. Ofc it could be because few save those who played in beta have much experience in the game, but still..

I've almost whined about teammates myself, though. But it's usually just that the opponents have way better players or such. Especially considering this community has so far been way better than in DotA (or WoW and such..), I'm really trying not to vent my annoyance towards teammates. Keyboard might suffer though :D

You realize that the multiplayer is highly unstable and drops people against their will randomly right? I haven't seen anyone deliberately ragequit a game yet, but I have had plenty of games where as the hours dragged on, more and more people ended up succumbing to DCs between the duration and the connection issues. I myself got dropped in the middle of an hour long game, which sucked badly, but as I said, there isn't much control over that.

Buy a full sized human stuffed doll and keep knives nearby, best stress release ever...kidding, kidding! Everyone gets upset from time to time, best not to take it seriously. I listen to people vent all day at my work, heck I even get upset often enough and know how it feels.

There's an eject system which is rather strict atm so that's part of the problem.

@OP might I suggest checking out the strategy forum or playing single-player a bit till you can beat hard/nightmare ai. Avoid having team-mates in single-player as they're generally more a hinderance then help. (although a hard UB was pretty good last night)

I`ve encountered even worse in Left4Dead... now THAT had to be my worst online community experience. And I know very well how to play that game - I was definitely not a 'noob'. The problem is that you have parents who let the media raise their kids. Or parents who let others (if anybody) raise their kids. The resultant brood is a brat with no sense of either civility or fair play. These children are impatient, rude, and given the impersonality of the Interlag, prone to getting away with behaviour that in person would surely see them receive a solid punch to the face.

Some parents should never be parents. The blame is on them.

For the record, most beta testers were eminently civil and pleasant.

Well said WarlokLord, i'm no old fart but i can tell the people online loose their sense of decency and sportsmanship everyday

as far as beta testing goes, it has consequences if you come across as a douche. I beta tested many games, in warhammer online the community manager and dev's would stripe people of beta passes if they broke the beta rules, one of them flaming. Thus people seemed nicer.

Read my post http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347394 i plan on getting screenshots of such people from the community and putting them together, to bring some sort of consequence to actions.

Read this about road rage... applys to internet video game

"Its the annonomity that gives our nastier nature a place to feed on itself.
Like road rage, if one doesn’t make eye-contact with another small infractions of our ideas of fair play, will really tend to flare out of control."

Well, the problem will resolve itself.

Elitist people will keep playing ladder / pantheon or whatever, teamed in hardcore clans, while people playing for 'fun' will have custom games, maybe some soft version of the pantheon, and casual clans. So noone will need to be ignored, and when you will get your foot in an hardcore clan / fight, you will know what to expect.

But it's understandable that on a ladder game or something related, where people will play to compete, you will be whined upon if you make the other team win :P

Dota didn't really have that, casual games were mixed with others, hence the trouble.

Been here since beta and havn't been told what items to buy or to leave so heres the learning curve of this game -

The community is great if you ask me. The forums/pre-game chat is all sensible and not full with little 14 year rage kids.

Ingame however - yea chatting can get flamish if you guys are getting raped, but hey thats the internet for you. I admit when im with really bad players and they start feeding the enemy I can get a bit angry...but im working on it lol.

Im sorry if I get angry at players.... but if your feeding the enemy and charging in with Erebrus against 2 heroes and trying to chase them down when they match your speed.... and you keep doing this and die I get frustrated...

Nothing worse then pulling more then your own weight only to have your teammate help sink the game...

All I ask if my team not to die... dont be crazy.... had one guy that had almost equal stats to a AI player... like can you blame me for getting angry at him?

It was 3v2 luckily 1 of theirs dropped and the bots naturually enjoy the Japanese strategy of suicide runs... well I think it was...

3/12 for the bot and 4/11 for the player....
