Custom Maps in Entrenchment

Good morning all...or for those who are experiencing morning right now.

I just have a quick question, that has probably already been addressed, but I can't search for because I can't search for some reason.  I was wondering how I could use downloaded maps in Entrenchment.  I have changed the version number found in the .GALAXY file to the version number that the maps have in both the SINS GALAXY folder and the ENTRENCHMENT GALAXY folder, but my maps are still not showing up in the list whenever I want to play a new game on them.

Also, I keep getting errors in Galaxy Forge whenever I want to load them using that tool...and yes, I have downloaded the version that has been updated for Entrenchment v1.01.  And I do also have Entrenchment version 1.01.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I think I addressed this before, it appears to be a common coincidence.  Simply open the galaxy.manifest in entrenchment with notepad or something similar, type in your map name (in the same format as the defaults), and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.  I've tried putting the maps in every GALAXY folder I can find, even the folder where the mods are, and it still doesn't work for me.

Maybe it's me, I don't know.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

The map must only be in the game's galaxy folder NOT under ...\Documents and Settings\...

The game folder, under original SINS\GALAXY or ENTRENCHMENT\GALAXY?  Sorry if I'm still confused and all...

It goes in the Entrenchment/galaxy folder.  Then open the galaxy.manifest with notepad and add 1 to filecount # and at bottom of list of the maps you see there, add...    fileName "yourmapname"  making sure to spell exactly the name of your map , then save and it should show up in game.  This works for mods too ...same process cept you do the notepad part in the mod itself.

entrenchment can alsoe read the maps in the sins/galaxy folder, it just needs the galaxies in the galaxy.manifest which is why I wrote the manifest manager in this thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/342644

and download the latest here   http://files.filefront.com/13469252

hope this helps

I'm sorry harpo, but for some reason I keep getting runtime errors everytime I use your program.  I have Microsoft .NET framework 3.0 installed (via Windows Update), so I'm thinking I have all the necessary files for the program to work.

If it helps, I'm not trying to create my own maps and them put them into the game, I'm downloading custom maps from the SINS website and trying it that way.  I don't know if the format is the same or not, all I know is that before version 1.15 SINS and 1.01 ENTRENCHMENT, all I had to do to make them work is to change the version number in the GALAXY file.  I think it's version 3 for both 1.15 SINS and 1.01 ENTRENCHMENT.

Thanks for the info and advice though.  It must be something on my end that's causing me headache.

the program was written in vb6, and I have tested on xp/vista and windows7 32bit & 64bit and there is a LOT more changes than just the version number, which is why I wrote the sins map updater to convert v2 maps to v3 the link is here http://files.filefront.com/sins+map+updater+v118rar/;13469236;/fileinfo.html

if you could email me at harpo99999 at hotmail.com the exact error messages I will try to solve them with you

yeah, his converter is sweet. In fact, that's how I made my first map (even though it absolutely stinks...) by making it in Galaxyforge 1.1 (3 won't work for me) and making the map then updating!  (long process, but worth it)

Hey thanks for the tool.  My only question is how long does it take the program to convert a map?  I had it running for about an hour earlier today, and to me it didn't show any sign of being done.  I know the tool is working, because it identified the galaxy files that needed to be converted.

the program on a slow 1.8ghz celereon will fix the maps in about 30 seconds on faaster computers it is even quicker, but you do have to first click on find galaxies then click on fix found galaxies then you can exit

Problem solved!  Great tool!  I figured out what was wrong...I had already changed the version number in the galaxy file to the current version number read in the game.  I think this fooled the tool to thinking that the galaxy file was already updated.  A stupid thing on my part.

They all work now!  Thanks for the help and putting up with my dumbfoundedness.
