I was playing earlier tonight in a 2v2v2 and it becomes a 4v2. Me being on the 2 side. What's up with this? This happens to me all the time and it's frustrating. I fought it off as long as I could, but everytime I moved a fleet to defend something I lost what I left.
This happens to on FFAs as well. It's infuriating >=(
single player. I always seem to get stuck with the ally that spends the whole game begging for help and you know the second you move your fleet that colony is gettin hit
Personally I find the diplomacy side of the game doesn't really add to the fun of the experience. Have you tried the game with locked teams? The main problem is the AI can become chummy really easily, whereas it's a lot of work to keep the AI's happy.
The diplomacy is definitely the weakest aspect of gameplay in singleplayer, even beating out the pirate/bounty system - mainly because it has nothing to do with diplomacy and everything to do with fulfilling seemingly random objectives.
Expect the AI to create mega alliances/cease fires against you unless you go out of your way to create your own big alliance (which is, in its own way, quite fun - for a very limited amount of time).
I didn't realize you could lock the teams, sort of a nub at this still. Is that on the screen for choosing opponents and your faction?
Just before you start a game, its under GAME OPTIONS, i believe right above the pirate option.
