Map Designer - Upper Limit for Star Editor

In the manual it says the upper limit is only what your pc can handle. Is this a subjective thing where performance degrades the further you push it, or will the game actually say it can't build that map?

What is the largest map someone has built?

i've made 100+ star maps, they're not so great FPS wise and i imagine once a battle starts it'd be pretty dead

but 30 or so stars should be handlable by most medium-high end rigs
