who cares if girls are online.... gaming isnt some sort of dudes thing

i've had more "fun" games with people that claim to girls "i.e, me saying Dude you Rule, her saying... yah about that dude thingy......"

they actually think more brightly then most men do and they dont leave after they lose a fleet made up of 5 diciples

for the moment im much more confident a game won't get screwed due to "devil-like annoying players" if there are "alot" of female players, cuase i've never seem players claiming to be female leave / flame or anything of the sort

so which folder do t girls go under boy gamers or girl gamers ?

I usually just call everybody "he" because I've actually never seen the point of gender-different pronouns in any language. I'm hoping at some point in the far-distant future society will drop them entirely. "He" is marginally shorter, and I am male myself (I always imagine people with unknown demographics as being like me).

Usually, the way to tell actual female gamers from fakes is their unobtrusiveness (as well as spelling and being a constructive member of the community). The frauds usually claim to be female with a statement along the lines of "W000T YALL: IZ A CHICK!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN HAZ FONE NUBMER??", while actual women are more often revealed by statements like "BTW, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop calling me 'he'" three pages deep into a discussion. (I am exaggerating somewhat here, but you get my point)

But over all, does it really matter? Well, yes it sort of does from a social inspection point of view, because I'm very interested in tracking both the integration of women into mainstream society and in demographic trends among game/computer nerds, but really from the perspective of the game I couldn't care less. What matters is that they focus and contribute.

There are plenty of women who use the internet, chat in forums and interact with numerous online communities.  Most have learnt not to advertise the fact that they are female to avoid the crap that errupts when little boys with zero accountability are able to write anything they want.  Others pretend to be men to avoid the issue entirely.

Indeed.

This was a good thread, back in 2008 (its a necro). Too short really.

Side snide note: Its a good job there are no perverted females on the planet, just males...

Oddly enough, most the time I that thought a person on the web was woman, "she" turned out to be a right-wing guy. Either a college guy with pimples and "Jeff Gannon fetish" or a retired cop. Go figure.

I wondered how it got so many replies so fast.....

That I know of. I could expound on the societal pressures that I suspect cause this fact for pages, but let's just be thankful there are less perverts in general.

That is odd. Best not to think too deeply about it.

I concur. But why limit themselves to the Internet? If somebody's being a misogynisitic jerk, I would and usually do call them out on it.

"Feminist" is not an insult, remember.

The nice thing about the Internet is that you can be anyone you want to be. I can be a millionaire or a sky diving instructor... whatever I feel like, as long as I can convince other people to believe me. Its very antiquated to associate people's real life identity with their on-line identities. (even for an idea from 2 years ago)

That being said I don't believe its the fault of any group of people that women are less prominent in certain parts of our culture. The real culprit is the social machinery that acts on a much larger scale than human beings can control. Thats probably the scariest part about the whole idea of discrimination and segregation... the fact that it is mostly voluntary and naturalized.

Very true. I've always suspected that many of the alleged differences between male and female brains are in fact learned (starting) at an early age as opposed to being genetic.

Yeah, like those nursery rimes that basically tell males they are worthless villians? Useful.

And for balance; females to be helpless victims, nicely dressed attractive victims but still.

Among other things. Most cultures are saturated with predetermined gender roles, from the cradle to the grave. But I think I'll shut up for a while and let other people post.
