Negative karma?

I have suggestion for the karma system. How about members can also give not just positive karma to good members but also negative karma to spammers trolls,ETC. Frogboy Kyro can we have a new option to give negative karma?

You cant be serious...:P Now if this were EA and you were CEO there...then you might end up with negative karma. Then again if this was EA i would not be making a comment like this as you would never have shown yourself on the forums. ;)

Though negative karma has it's place, probably, i think it would be abused far more than positive karma has or too much. I mean look at KP, he has over 30 karma and that just can't be right.... ;):P

-It is safe to say that not everyone who deems your post as useful will grant you positive karma.
-It is also safe to say that every person you annoy with your post will give you negative karma.

Adding negative karma onto the list would just lead to seeing who has the negative number closest to zero...I for one would be in triple digits I'm sure. I'm not always as civil as I preach to be.

 Don't worry, i'm sure that in the nearly 2 1/2 years that i have been a regular on this site i have caused enough grief that a line will form to neg me should it be implemented.....
We'll have our own -100 club and not let the mere annoying join...you must be truly a thorn in someone's side to gain entry...:P

It will end up being used as a "weapon" in flame wars. People think more before giving any kind of Positive view - on anything. The flip side is people in general get Negative at the drop of a hat, and for trivial reasons. It would be abused and become a nightmare.

you get negative karma for being ticked at absolutely no campaign, griping about boring map after boring map because even though you can design a massive 547 planet(oid) map based around 32 Rogue Stars with numerous wormholes, pirate bases, numerous npc factions, etc... There are no events other than random AI missions to destroy other AI stuff or give stuff to them and the ever annoying pirate raids that damn near everyone turns off -apparently that part works just fine.

Yes, I have an OMFG huge Freelancer map -but SINS came with no campaign or campaign editor, just galaxy forge and modding. Sadly, no amount of content makes up for the lack of campaign/campaign-editor. SINS overall is a nice engine to make good Fraps of the stuff you make and revel in the skirmishes set to impressive music.

So much for +1 karma.

Damn, I was hoping nobody would notice. So now the "Doom Rays for Karma" scandal must come out!  Karma-Gate?

Karma-Gate... Hmmm can an emperor be indicted? ;P

Karma Gate - dude you just made my day and its only 8:20 AM.

But I'll testify for you. I mean, you gave me my one and only little tiny karma point. I can be bought.

Anyway... I agree that it would be abused. Honestly, sometimes people deserve a bit of a slap on the wrist for their posts / responses, but then they'd give negative karma to who ever set them straight.

No, holding ultimate power over the state precludes that. Being deposed and executed is another matter entirely though...

A couple other ideas for karma:

1. The ability to see who it was from. Some of us have taken to "signing" our karma messages, so that people can do this.

2. Be able to to see how much karma you've given out, and who you've given it to.

3. A message in the karma window telling you # of characters used/allowed. Apparently there is a ~253 character limit.

~looks around at the slack-jawed crowd~ WHAT? I like to find out how to break things.

How about this...

Inorder to give someone Bad_Karma , you first need to generate Good_Karma , like ammunition.

Were you writing that long of a karma message, or deliberately looking for the character limit?

Haha...definitely a funny idea. :D

Things I'd like to see:
  • Users accrue karma over time.  Higher user ranks accrue it faster.
  • You can only give away karma you have
  • Negative karma can be given anonymously
  • Negative karma can be reported to forum moderators for abuse (Over-reporting would be handled by the same moderators)
  • Karma would have some value - coupons for Stardock apps?  Fake gifts (like in Facebook)?  Rides on Frogboy's boat?

Definitely the first, probably sub-consciously the second.

Propositions:
-There should be different kinds of karma, so that you can indicate what behavior you're referring to.
-People with a lot of positive karma should be able to give out more karma to others.
- N00bs should not be able to give karma, until they have some positive karma.
- Posts that accumulate large negative score should be deleted. We don't want to bother reading something the majority of people doesn't like, do we?
- Threads with positive karma should float up and change color, and get some kind of blinking icon.
-People with large negative karma should be automatically tagged with appropriate tags, like "moron", "idiot", "troll", etc.
-People with large amounts of positive karma should be also tagged, like "awesome dude", "community defender", "the guy we all agree with", etc.
- For emergency cases there should be some kind of "shut the fuck up" button, which greatly decreases the karma of the target at the expense of your own.

Optional:
- Add features that would make the forum similar to RPGs: hit points, skills, classes, etc. Like on forumwarz.
- Restrict the length of posts. I mean, who would want to read through 8 KB of bullshit just to vote someone up or down? That's inefficient.
- All the karma information should be updates in near real-time through AJAX.
- There should be something on this forums that uses Google technology, because Google is awesome.

That's my modest opinion. If you don't like my opinion, it's just your opinion. Remember, having discussions is not that important. The important thing it to be social and promote niceness of the community, and participate, and contribute. Also, if you're against negative karma you support trolls.

...which is your opinion.

Nothing is stopping me from giving you karma right now, but dissing you in the description lol.

Karma has now become too complicated for me.

Can't we just give someone Kudos instead? Personally i'd perfer a Kudo to a Karma. Great, now im hungry too.

I just don't see why this post is even still going except for the wise cracks. I'd give you all Kudos but alas, i can only give possitive Karma.

Can't someone be rewarded for a post without all the rules and tags; as much as i really want to be "the guy we all agree with". oh to dream......

What I'd REALLY like is to have my medals back...

Rides on Frogboy's boat?

I the only one who noticed this?

But I do believe that negative karma is a very BAD idea. It can, and WILL be abused. As aforementioned, in every flame war, it shall be used as a tool of destruction. Like 'player reputation' on xbox live, its messed up. barely any people give good reps, and the annoying ones give bad reps. Its an unbalance. "Those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind." - Idontknowwho. Its a great quote, and sums it up.

Oooo . .. Stardock brand honey!  Could I use karma to buy some?
