There should be a random event where a star can go nova and wipe out all colonies in a system and make all planets around it uninhabitable.

There is a man-made one called a Terror Star in TA that does just that. All planets get turned to asteroids.

If there would be an event like that, I'd hope for at least 10 weeks heads up to evac or research for a tech to rejuv the star... akin to MoO.

I know, that's why I suggested it now that we have an effect like that already. It should be much easier to do now.

Wouldn't be any more earth-shattering (no pun intended) than most of the other Mega Events.
