Massive fail: How I lost with overwhelming odds in my favor

or atleast, I thought I had overwhelming odds in my favor...

So... my friend and I are playing, k? and I am tec and he is Advent.

He invades me with some 28 illuminators and a Radiance. I counter with a Kol and 35 LRMs. His illuminators are almost unupgraded. I have a novalith canon, so I have all those LRM upgrades. And I have shield and hull and the AoE attack upgrades as well. Guess who won? Him. Why??? This makes no sense!

Did he have those Guardians in his fleet too? They make all the difference imo, as well as the subjugators. Guardians add more shields to his ships. I take down the Guardians before anything else when facing Advent (tho I only play single player so far).

No, it makes perfect sense. Each of his illums can attack multiple ships of yours and they're long range too, and LRM's are eggshells even with upgrades. In this situation, I'd expect illums to win if the defending player doesn't carefully manage his attack.

What tactics did you both use? Did he take out your LRM's first? Did he Detonate Antimatter you so your Kol was effectively just a giant frigate?

Flak helps. Or, if he didn't have flak, even fighters.

28 to 35 dude he had you outnumbered! Illuminator is like > 1.5 LRM!

he did have the numbers but u needed to watch those support frigates they offer fleet assistance in any sticky situation

ONLY illuminators and a radiance.

I had 10 bomber squads, 80% allegiance on the planet and the previous force I mentioned. He didnt have strategy

everything on autocast.

Sorry, I'm reading the first post and I'm not seeing support fleet elements mentioned anywhere. Maybe the other guy had them, but that's not what the OP says.

Illums vs LRMs is like screwdrivers vs shotguns vs rifles. You get a hella lot more damage when you can hit two foes at once.

you need fighters, not bombers for LRM things

DAMMIT WHERE'S THE EDIT FUNCTION! FRIG!
SHOTGUNS VS RIFLES

28 illums * 6 upkeep points each = 168

35 LRMs * 4 = 140

He had the bigger fleet, and if he used his Radiance properly, your LRMs werent attacking the illums, they were attacking him. Taunt is a amazing skill.

Each race's mirror units arent mirrors, they have diff upkeep costs and strengths. You cant win against illums with LRMs.

Yeah, you would have had to have 42 LRMs just to match his unit points. Add the fact that tec LRM is twice as cheap, and it's obvious why you lost. There were overwhelming odds against you.

Theres alot of micro for LRMs that could have helped you too . Ill go into it if you want

Well, that planet he attacked was right next to one that was tasked to making ships and I was making a bunch of LRMs and nothing else at the moment. My real fleets were far away. He had used a wormhole to get up close (stupid of me to not cover it...).

His fleet was purely one Radiance and a fleet of Ilums.
