If you're sick of crashes...

I don't know whether anyone else has tried using Hamachi to play their multiplayer games, but we've found it very helpful. Using the normal means, we haven't played a game more than 15 minutes before it crashes out on us. A soon as we switched to using Hamachi ( http://www.hamachi.com/    I think)
our games have worked perfectly every time.

Has anyone else tried this? Has it worked for you too? I just thought people might want to know about this.

It has worked for you through Hamachi because as I've stated many times, Hamachi is a tunneling program which essentially employs NAT-T (Nat traversal) type connections to "tunnel-through/past" routers/firewalls which would normally "break" TCP P2P connections.

As I've pointed out many times, if everyone (HOST & CLIENT(S)) configure their network setups according to the instructions in my guide (Networking and SINS) no one will have any issues this way either. I guess for some it's just easier to install a third-party program. :)

EDIT:
Of course there are those (at university dorms etc.) for whom Hamachi is probably the only option at the moment...

Also, it has been pointed out on these forums (not by me) that disabling the "autosave" function tends to lessen the chance of a late-game crash/de-sync when there tends to be lots happening on everyone's machines.

I use Hamachi when I play with my brother when he is at school.

The biggest problem we have is that the school's internet keeps cutting the connection, even Hamachi cant stop it. We can play anywhere from 30 min to an hour and be fine but then someone drops off of TeamSpeak and we know that someone is about to get dropped from the game. The only thing we can do is save the game often and hope for the best. Unfortunately we ran across that nasty little de-sync bug, and we had to totally abandon one of our game when it kept crashing in less than a minute after we restarted the game.

Are these all LAN issues? I've never had these sorts of issues just playing on Ironclad Online. If you can I'd say just play your games using that, but I have had to use hamatchi in the past. If I remember right Warcraft3 and Starcraft didn't have TCP/IP where you could type in the hosts ip to connect, it just had normal lan. So we had to use hamachi so it'd think we were on a lan and it always worked perfectly. Worked for Diablo2 as well... and the SupCom beta...

Hamachi is dangerous for people who LIVE off of their laptop (work, etc) like me :(

Luckily, I've fixed my router issues, and while on a WAN card, I have no problem with hosting/joining games :D
