How to change Tactical Icon fade-in distance?

What the topic says ^_^
Basically i want to increase the distance at which you can see the ships before they are replaced with icons, just by a small ammount. How? Ive been looking in the camera and settings files and tested everything, but nothing seems to work..

I'd like to know this too. Right now, whenever I don't want icons of any kind, I activate Cinematic Mode. Give that a shot, it works well.

Use cinematic mode (in addition to ctrl-shift-y which disables the empire tree, the UI and the remaining icons).

There are also values for icon distances somewhere in the gameplay.constants or the individual ship (planet, building, ...) entities, but I haven't had time to play around with them yet.

So the only way to change that distance is to mod each and every ship, which would also make onlineplay impossible due to the edited files? Thats crap :(
You can change the max-particles value in the settings file, so why not this?
