Biggest imbalance ??

Am i wrong are all the maps have random planets ?? Thats just silly, every balanced rts should give all the players an even start ... when a TEC player has 2x terran planets near him its a free win - no colonization tech so no research stations needed, his population bonus research works on his capital and all terran. Just put down two military stations and spam figs/lrms and there is no way to stop it.

Am i missing something here ? What can other players do ? they cant stop him from colonizing so early and later he already has 2 caps and can produce ships at a much faster rate :/

Ugh, most maps that are random have a built in 3 starting planets, one is your terran, another an asteroid and you get an Ice or Volcanic planet. The rest of the map is as it should be random.

Yes you don't need research station for Terran planets to get colonization going, but you still need it for tradeports.

theres a few balanced maps, but many of the scenario maps are not balanced at all (at least for ffa, when it claims they are for ffa in the description), and random does not always start as astax claims it does, you can start with 2 asteroids and a decent planet 2 jumps away, while the enemy starts with 2 planets within one jump away on medium+ random maps.

basically many scenario maps and random medium+ sized maps are balanced so that half the players start in weak spots and the other half start in strong spots, while this might be okay in team games, its not at all for ffa.
