Where'd my kaboom go?

Have had game since release day and I've been playing away - I find it repeatedly satisfying when capital ships exploded with their massive kaboom. My wife was watching a game the other night that I had started and I said "watch this thing explode".... and to my disappointment no explosion animation. In fact, I haven't seen one since - everytime a capital ship explodes now it just kinda disappears. Any idea why? I haven't changed any settings and my fights were just a few ships so it wasn't exactly overloaded ><

Haven't changed a setting since day 1 - checked they are still all same. No computer problems at all. Game runs great like it always has just lost the explosions of capital ships :S

No mods installed? New display drivers? Anything of the sort?

What has troubled me from the very beginning is that when a frigate is destroyed, it disappears first and the explosion occurs half a second later. Makes me sad.

That, and the fact that the ships just stand still while blasting away.

Ed: better language, hopefully.

This happens to me as well, sometimes the cap ships will just dissapear on death without their explosion. It is not however permanent like your case, its just sometimes they explode, sometimes they just go poof.

it's to do with the game running into your particle limit, I think.

go to this file (in winXP):

\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

open the user.setting file with notepad.

change this line

MaxParticleCount _______

to say, 12000 or so.

it will slow down the game in a big fight if you set this to something higher than your graphics card can handle.
