Tutorial does nothing?

Ok so just bought and installed. Had an hour to mess with the tutorials. However i click on the basic gamepley turorial, and nothing happens. I hear a sound clip saying "If its out there i'll find it!"

What am i meant to do? Can't seem to find a manual either. Im free to move around and mess with the tutorial, and managed to move a few ships around, but isnt there like umm a tutorial telling me what to do?

Very puzzled at the moment!

Hey Nirvana.. thanks for the report - there is something strange going on with the tutorials it seems. You can try reloading it, but if that fails the manual pdf will be in your Sins directory.

Hmm okay i tried a different tutorial, the logistics one, and i did indeed get some text explaining what the goals were and helping me under stand the game, but after about 4 instructions, i pressed okay to continue, and the text vanished, leaving me floating in space again wondering what the hell im meant to be doing.

Of the other 3 tutorials, none even have text showing me what to do, it just loads the game world, and thats it.

Bit of a steep learning curve aint it? :s Guess i will have to resort to reading the manual now i found it, hopefully it includes the tutorial steps in it?

Good I thought I was the only one whos tutorials not working.

tried loading/reloading the tutorials many times, rebooted a few times too. Only the Logistics one has any text, and that just abrubtly stops after pressing okay a few times.

The only game like this i ever played was Gal-Civ years ago. Where do i start?

just to mention, after mine are worked again i quit the game an restarted again, they worked normally.

Hmm maybe it has to do with some UI Settings? before i started the tuts, i changed the settings(Video/Effects/Interface..)

We're on it! :) Doesn't seem to be everybody so by isolating what is different about those who's tutorials are broke should help us track it pretty quick.

Can anyone tell me if there is going to be a update for the people who have a physx graphic accelerator card.

Yup i changed the vid settings to my 1680 resolution. Thats about it.

Will come back another time and see if there is a fix / patch. Im way too old to learn games the hard way with kids distracting me lol

Thanks anyways.

Where do i start?

You begin the game with your home planet, a shipyard, and a few construction ships. If you click on your planet, pretty much everything can be controlled from there. There's a button for planetary upgrades (they're all pretty self explanatory), another for building logistics buildings (resource harvesting mines, shipyards, research labs, trade ports, etc), one for military buildings (defenses and such). On the bottom row you will have buttons for any shipyards you have in the gravity well of the planet, so you don't need to select individual shipyards to build any ships. There's also a set waypoint button that the ships you're building will obey.

To start, select your planet, click on the logistics buildings button (looks like a gear), and you will see most buttons greyed out. On the very left you will see active button to build metal and crystal mines. As a general rule, most things you colonize will have resource asteroids around them that you build mines on to gather ore and crystal (these never run out, and are completely automated). The planets themselves give you credits through taxing the population, so the higher the population the more money the planet makes for you.

Next, with the planet selected go back to the root menu, and click the "Frigates" button on the lower bar. You will be able to build scouts, colony ships, and basic attack frigates at first. For starters, build a scout. Select it once it finishes and you will see it has an "explore" ability. That means it can fly around the map discovering all the planets and nifty things. For now, just right click anywhere in the planet's gravity well to get the ship moving. Now, zoom out until you see a white line (or more) leading to a greyed out planet with a (?) over it. That means you know there's a planetoid there, but you haven't discovered it. Right click on that planet with your scout selected, and you will tell it to phase jump and map that planet for you.

There's 2 kinds of movement in Sins: One is moving normally around each planet's gravity well, and the other is phase lanes linking planets (and stars). Giving your ships an order to move to another planet will make them fly to the edge of the gravity well of their current planet, and then phase jump to wherever you ordered them to.

Now that you know how to move ships around and build buildings and such, start experimenting! Sins is just one big giant sandbox :)

It's very hard to describe everything you need to know, so if you have any specific questions please post them and I'll answer them :) In the meantime, I hope this is enough to get you started.

Hi guys, it appears there a problem with some computers and various resolutions with the tutorials. You should be able to play them if you stay at 1024x768. You can then change to a higher resolution to play the regular game. We'll fix this right away but this will get you going.

Why has my title of this changed to Resolved!

What the heck? Still cant use the tutorials? Not exactly a great first impression, tutorials dont work, no problem for most as everyone seems to have been in the beta, kinda leaves us newbies to the game stuck tho.

Not what i expected, having played gal-civ on and off for years and having no problems at all.

And thanks to the above poster for taking time to explain it a bit. Will try to have a mess about once the kids go to bed.

This is why it was marked as resolved.

Hmm seems to be some time delay in posting and seeing replies, also wont let me edit posts.

Seems to work at that low res, thanks, will wait for a patch though my lcd doesnt seem to display that mode very well without a weird flicker and lines through everything.

cheers.

Yeah, you can't edit your post after anyone replies to it. You can only edit the OP.

I would guess there will be a hotfix for this pretty quickly, since they already figured it out :P

You should have released the gamma beta!

Good point, I can see how its misleading. We've always used (Resolved) to indicate to support that the bug has be fixed and so people with the same problem know they can find a fix inside. I've renamed it to temp fix available so its less confusing

Well so far it's the only actual bug found, so doing pretty good :P

Great. thats what I always play at anyways(old flat screen crt monitor.....I don't need some 30 inch 1000 dollar monitor). But it still looks great with my 8800gts

Update: If the resolution change fix doesn't work for you, you can get around it at any resolution by restarting the tutorial until you see the initial text box for the tutorial. It will eventually work.

Is something more supposed to happen in the General Tutorial after you colonize the asteroid? I think the scripting might have broken partway through the tutorial.

Maybe it was over, but I didn't find it very clear.

This happened the first time i clicked on the tutorials. Its fixed if you click on them again.
