Hi,

I think the jump line between 2 system represents the shortest road between those systems at FtL speed but any ship outside the gravitational well and with a clear line to the destination system should be able to initiate a jump too.

Ships are not clever when they transit between 3 or more system

In addition, i think it would be great to be able to put ships in hyper space patrol duty.
Those ships would by circling around system at FtL speed just outside gravitational well limit and react more quickly to any incursion.

Similar topics have been brought up before, but it is not likely that there will be any such option to jump to any location with an unobstructed line of travel (as space is not that densely populated, this would bascially mean being able to jump anywhere).

As to specifically being able to jump to a connected planet from anywhere outside the current planet's well, that's basically the way it was in beta 1. It was changed to the current "only jump from an arc facing the phase lane" system because the old way allowed you to pretty much circumvent any defenses with impunity.
