Wasted Time - but it's all good now :)

I am pretty mad.

I got an email saying if I pre order the game now I will get instant access to the beta 2 and all future betas so I pre ordered it and have spent the last hour trying to find a way to DL the beta only to find out they lied to hook me in. I now find out that you have to special pre order it only a certain way to get the download or you have to wait till september. There was no fine print in the message they sent me stipulating any special process and that is false advertising even if they didnt mean it. There are organizations out there who love to find crap like this to litigate over and they better fix this. The only reason I pre ordered was to play it right now. If I dont get the Download I am canceling my order and will never play this game. I am not going to jump through any more hoops at this point because I have already wasted a good chunk of my afternoon.

sorry to hear you got problems

But if you just started a nice thread of what happend, i believe they would help you out as fast as they can

If you reconsider, you can get access right now to keep it short

Cheers

Hi Psyleck, sorry about your problems. I'm not sure what you mean by having to pre-order in a special way. If you pre-ordered it, you should be able to download it right now via Stardock Central. I'll be happy to step you through the process if you could describe the problem a bit more.

I'm beginning to think the same happened to me. I pre-ordered through Stardock Central today, registered my purchase and all, and while Stardock recognizes that I've bought the thing there are no further options to download the beta. I've sent a question to Stardock's support address, but that shuts down at 4 EST so I've not heard anything yet. If buying through Stardock Central doesn't let me into the beta, I'd like to know why I still had to pay the full $45.

Do you have "Show pre-release versions" selected? It's a beta so the download option won't show up otherwise. More info can be found at http://tinyurl.com/2oh93j.

Thanks that fixed it. I ran across a thread saying that unless you signed up for some sight and bought the game with tokens you had to wait for the next fase of beta to play. That was when I got mad and osted here. I didnt think of looking at filter options hahaha. Thanks for the fix

Not in yet, still downloading but thanks for the promt reply. Is there a manual I can lok through while I am downloading?

We won't be writing a manual until closer to release as the game will likely change a lot before then based on your guy's feedback However, these forums are a goldmine for tricks, ideas, and strategies. Today there were some great battle reports that might be of interest.

Please calm the hell down. You probably wasted like 30 min. Read the wrong places for how to fix it.

How do you feel that the solution was that all you had to do was click a check box?

Calmly state the problem next time.

The option he was talking about with buying the game using tokens (which I'm surprised no one else touched on since it came up) really only had to do with us late comers who really wanted to get in after they closed Beta 1. Here's the down and dirty:

When Beta 1 closed people were forced to wait for Beta 2 to come out (which sounds reasonable). What was not counted on was that while the pre-ordering system allowed them to do that with Stardock, it didn't stop the ability to use TGN (Total Gaming Network) tokens to pre-order the game. Doing that still allowed users to get into the closed beta 1.

Now why did I say all of this? Hopefully this kills off rumors such as the one that started from someone saying that you need to pre-order the game in a "special" way. I thought it was special enough that you could do this all online. Ya don't even have to leave your computer to get your hands on this.

This information is also extremly irelivent because, as of the time this post was entered, the beta was still open and will remain to be so for all new pre-orders until the 31st of July. So all you aspiring megalomaniacs that want your own galaxy to call yours (yeah, that's me too), ya still have plenty of time to jump in if you want to be part of history (Honestly, what developer actually gave their end users the ability to actually affect the end product from all the way back into the engine of the game and not just bugs? I mean really?).

Also, hopefully that exploit gets fixed so it doesn't work when Beta 2 is closed (not really ).
