This is driving me crazy! Saving game!!!!?

I'm a veteran of GC1 who just finally bought GC2 gold edition and got started. But I have one hecukva problem; I can't create a saved game!

Every time I try, I can either create a quicksave or an autosave. Try as I might, I can't save a game under a given title (like my name, for example), and come back to that later! This is kind of important given there are two of us, me and my roomie, who want to play seperate games on the same computer. What am I doing wrong? What am I not doing? What am I missing? Help!

Is it not letting you type in your own file name? When you go to load/save in the menu, it should pop up and have I believe autosave or whatever the last save name was as the title of the save. You can click on the name at the top of the box and change it. Then hit save and it should work. Hope this helps.

It doesnt let me type anything. It doesn't let me have any kind of saved game other than quicksave or autosave. I click on either of those names, it only asks me if i want to overrite that save. No other option is given.

That's very weird. But I'm assuming you're stuck in a rut, so to speak. Try this. When you're in a game, go to MENU (top-left), then LOAD/SAVE, then you'll get a list of games. Don't click on any that are named. Go into the box on top of the list, which will have a named game in it already (quicksave or autosave, in your case). Erase what is in the box, then type in the name you want. Then hit save down at the bottom. It should NOT erase the auto or quicksave, but create a NEW saved game with the name you just entered.

If that doesn't work, then there is something wrong.

I had a problem with typing in names of a planet for awhile, there was something wrong with the typing interface, but it eventually corrected itself....

I think I was having trouble what to click on to begin the typing .....so I have experienced this myself, even after I had done this stuff already...I figured it out though or the next load solved it....

I think it was me, not the game.....

the problem I had was a renamed a planet blank (enter), which made it extremely difficult to see where to click on to rename it to a proper name....
