rebate coupon

Does anyone know if the rebate coupon that comes with the Gold Edition can be used for Galciv2 dreadlords that was originally purchased by download?

I hear the coupon needed the cover of the dreadlords manual and download purchasers of galciv 2 dreadlords didn't get a manual.

Correct. You need to have purchased the retail version of DL in order to utilize the rebate.

Here is an email I received from Stardock this wekk:

Greetings Galactic Civilizations II player!

Stardock wants to let you know that the retail version of Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition contains a coupon in it that allows players of Galactic Civilizations II to be able to receive a $10 rebate from Stardock. This coupon, however, expires on April 15th!

According to GameRankings.com, Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar is the 11th highest rated PC game in history! The Gold Edition of Galactic Civilizations II includes both the original (Dread Lords) and Dark Avatar in a single integrated package along with the new, expanded user manual.

Retailers who are carrying Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition include:

* Best Buy
* EB Games
* GameStop
* Circuit City

Visit one of those retailers before April 15th and buy Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition to get the coupon to get your $10 off rebate from Stardock!

You can visit https://www.galciv2.com for more information on Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition & Dark Avatar.

I am a download user of Galciv II who just picked up gold and saw the required manual cover as part of the rebate conditions. However, the above email mentions nothing about requiring the retail version of GC2, and in fact implies (by sending it to a download user) that the retail version isn't necessary.

Honestly, if I knew this were the case I would've ordered the download version of the expansion and saved the $ up front. However, I figured the printed manual and CD Backup might be worth the hassle of the rebate so I bought the retail Gold version.

I guess my question is how does Stardock intend to honor the rebate for which they advertised to me directly?

This message was sent to all GalCiv II customers as far as I'm aware. We have no way to making the distinction of who bought the original game digitally vs. who bought it at retail. It is implied by listing the above retailers and by the nature of rebates (which always require at least a UPC bar code from a physical box), that you would need a boxed version of the original game to make use of this offer. Our apologies if you misunderstood this, but the rebate timeframe has now expired regardless.

Yarlen,

Thank you for your reply.

I realize in retrospect how that email could've been sent to all GalCiv II customers without regard to means of purchase.

However, I respectfully disagree that this is a misunderstanding on my part based on implications within the email and the nature of rebates. On the contrary, I consider this a misstatement or omission (albeit unintentional) on the part of the author who wrote "allows players of Galactic Civilizations II to be able to receive a $10 rebate from Stardock"; something that could just as easily been clarified by saying "...allows owners of the retail version of Galactic Civilizations II to be able to receive a $10 rebate from Stardock". Additionally, many rebates require only facsimiles of the original product, which in this case could have just as likely been the name on my totalgaming.net account.

Lastly, my purchase and original post was still within the rebate timeframe, and the submission can be postmarked as late as tomorrow, so that argument is disingenuous.

I have been a customer and member of Drengin.net since the days of GalCiv I, and truly believe that my money was well spent on the GalCiv line with or without the rebate. Therefore, please accept this reply in the spirit in which it is intended: in good faith from a long-time customer who is trying to right an unintentional wrong. I would be willing to accept tokens for my totalgaming.net account in lieu of the rebate check, and I and I am willing to make proof of my purchase in order to facilitate this.

Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Don

Not all. I never received this message. I bought the game retail.

I realize that South Carolina isn't exactly the intellectual capital of the United States, but I always assumed that at least you taught your children how to read.

Just in case you missed it:
the retail version of Galactic Civilizations II

Mistralok, his complaint was that while it was clear that the rebate form was only included in the retail boxed version of GC2:Gold, it did not explicitly specify the retail version of Dread Lords as a requirement to redeem said rebate:

Stardock wants to let you know that the retail version of Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition contains a coupon in it that allows players of [the retail boxed version of] Galactic Civilizations II to be able to receive a $10 rebate from Stardock.

@Home Fries: While I (obviously) disagree with you regarding the coupon issue, I feel that I may have 'stepped over the line' in my reply. Please accept my apology re: the intelligence of the good people of the great state of South Carolina.

Mistralok,

I respect the fact that you manned-up and apologized, and your apology is accepted in a gracious manner befitting its delivery.

Just and interesting sidenote, though: I was trying to figure out why South Carolina was brought into the equation. After all, I've only ever spent a week in Charleston. Then I looked at my avatar, which is representative of the University of Southern California, and suddenly all became clear. BTW, having grown up in California, I don't take offense to the South Carolina remark. You may need to mend fences with other forum members, however.

Seems Yarlen didn't comment back after doing so, but this has been done. Hop on SDC and spend away

As a graduate of the UC system (University of California), I find it difficult to distinguish between USC (SoCal) and USC (South Carolina). After all, aren't they both composed primarily of spoiled rich white folk?

Thanks, guys. I'll try not to spend it all in one place...

No wait, that's the idea, isn't it?

Oops. One of my customers was a Gamecock, and sometimes wears a sweatshirt with a very similar logo. My monitor is adjusted to be easier on my eyes, and colors are sometimes confused. Or perhaps it is just a mental block. (I'm still smarting from that loss to Texas.) I live on the banks of a river that tends to freeze over in the winter. I made a bet that if USC lost, then I would jump into the river. They did, and so did I. I'll tell you what, it sure made me forget about the game for awhile! Glad to hear that you got your problem sorted out. The people of Stardock are the greatest. Best wishes, and go Trojans!
