We're extremely pleased to hear how much people seem to like the expansion pack (Dark Avatar) to Galactic Civilizations II. We're also glad that reviews have been so positive (average review score is about 4.75 stars out of 5).  But we're not finished yet! Tell us how we can make the game better for you.

For those of you who are new to buying Stardock software, the product you purchase is just the beginning of what you get. Stardock updates it software based on customer feedback.

In the case of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar we are lookoing for suggestions and feature requests that players would like to see in a free update.

Mind you, these can't be massive new features (i.e. "Multiplayer" or "Fleet combat") but rather little things that you think would make the game more enjoyable for you and others. Tweaks, new options, new features, improvements, etc.

Let us know what you'd like us to do. We are at your disposal!

I'd like to see a more robust tutorial scenario for setting up a successful economy.

As it is, it's probably the most puzzling part of the game for newcomers to address. Other 4X games tend to start off with little or no economic demands and slowly get more demanding as building complexities increase, but GalCiv2's model is a bit more complicated than that.

I understand there's a need to limit the ease of creating an economic powerhouse, but the more limitations made to restrict the really, really good players from having a huge head start against the AI, the more new players are getting frustrated and confused by going bankrupt too early.

Also, I'd like to see morale buildings serve a useful purpose on planets with larger populations. As population grows, tax revenue increases and base morale decreases, thus making econ buildings more effective and morale buildings less effective.

An automining feature so we dont have to spend so much time searching out the astroid belts each time we get an upgrade

I like Evil Muppet's mega event suggestion, which I will expand on.

For another, how about reviving all of the races that have been previously wiped out (maybe through some kind of time travel event). Give them each one of the class 0 worlds (which of course have been upgraded to class 26). - Or, perhaps alternatively, use a spare civilization slot to spawn a custom opponent from the player's collection. Give them a small empire by upgrading all of the class 0 worlds in one system to class 10."]b) For another, how about reviving all of the races that have been previously wiped out (maybe through some kind of time travel event). Instead of having it be a 'time travel event', how about it be a rebellion? This would mainly affect evil civs more than good or neutral ones (though those can experience this as well). These civs wouldn't come back and be their old selfs, they'd be different. For example, the Altarian Republic. Say they're conquered by the Drengin. Months or years after this they manage to overthrow the Drengin. They wouldn't necessarily get their homeworld back but they would gain like say 5 worlds, all of which would be worlds they had originally in their Republic. These worlds would be in the same sector and they would have Drengin ships which they 'acquired' and would have the Altarian colors on them. The name of the new Altarian government would be different and it would also be a different ethical alignment, like Altarian Empire, Altarian Alliance, Altarian Federation, Altarian Union, Altarian Dynasty, Altarian Imperium, ect. and the name would coincide with the ethical alignment, Empire, and Imperium would be evil for instance.

Another thing would that would be nice to see is when worlds breakaway from your civ and for the Independent League (or some other civ), the person you see in the diplomacy screen should be of your race. Right now, different race portraits come up. If you haven't conquered a Minor civ, the portrait should be of someone that is a Terran or Drengin.

Minor powers need to be more aggressive than they are. They should build warships and troop transports more than building a massive number of constructors for starbases that are pointless to them. Give them the ability to wage war effectively and once they obtain a certain number of planets they would then become a major power.

Ok well I have a few suggestions although I’m a bit late to the table with them.
Two new weapons;

1 – A planet destroyer; should be the second from highest tech weapon that costs a lot to research, is very expensive to build and so big it will only fit on the biggest ship type. Should be able to destroy any planet and replace it with some asteroids you can mine. This way it would allow you to convert unusable planets into a resource.

2 – A Super Nova Missile; The ultimate weapon can be fired into a star and will destroy the star and all planets orbiting it utterly as well as all ships within a certain number of parsec. This should be a medium sized weapon that can be placed on any medium or greater sized hull. But it’s bulky expensive and using it destroys the ship it’s on obviously. Using it should also have a diplomatic penalty. It should be at the top of the missile tech tree and very expensive in terms of research points.

A new drive technology; which is actually created using a constructor;

Zero length Wormhole; this allows a construction ship to create a jump gate (a new type of star base), that can open a zero length wormhole which would take zero time to traverse unlike the old technology used pre-hyper drive. Jump gates could be used by only the building races ship and could be set to open a wormhole to any other jump gate they control. (The ship has to send the co-ordinates of the target gate and a activation code to use it). Again an expensive end game technology very useful in larger maps.

Also generally I think spys should have missions e.g. steal technology, gather intelligence, sabotage, Insurrection, etc. Some more spy tech would be good too.

Great game by the way I only recently discovered it, makes up for my disappointment with Moo3.

Personally, I'd like the see the focus system for planet production modified to invalidate the all labs / all factories strategies. Perhaps make it so that the focus simply shifts the production percentages for the specific planet farther toward one side. I'm not sure how this could be implemented / balanced perfectly, but the principle of all labs / all factories irks me and I thought I'd throw out an idea

Not sure if it's been mentioned but small addition I'd like to see...

Make the foreign planet list show an icon of who owns the planet as well as being able to sort it by owner.

A good idea would be to have all three weapon and defense technologies end in some sort of super weapon/defense after all the technologies have been researched. Maybe a Terrorstar and Planet Shield for the first time?

Also, would it be possible for Stardock to create more video faces for the Custom Races, Minor races and the Krynn Consulate? The harsh reality of a image spoils the atmosphere of the game to me.

Another suggestion, ensure Kryo's Hull System Mod is accompanying the update.

Alongside the alliteration, might it be possible for the Jewellery and Hulls from GalCivII:DA to be detailed to the level of DL?

Also on my list of demands, a graphically revised start menu that has the exact same shape as the DA start menu. The tiny change between the grey borders is highly noticeabel and irritating.

Additionally, might it be possible to just generally attempt to speed up the loading times of saved games? I'm pleased I'm not waiting in the five-minute-ingots I as in DA, but waiting for three minutes (All times rounded and mean calculated) is still tedious.

Generally, make it faster and more aesthetically appealing.

And now for Gameplay:

I. The starter ships launch from the Homeworld, with a video upon launch.
II. A slight variation between ethical alignment should show itself in the shading of Ships. For example, Good=Bright, Neutral=No Change, Evil=Dark.
III. The Technology Tree videos of technology be adapted for each successive technology,
IV. Miniaturisation should be present in Sensor and Life support size.

While I know it would be complicated, what'd I'd want to see is an expansion of the espionage system, and by that I mean more options.

Allow you to sap morale, encourage rebellions, and, if you're sneaky and clever enough, get them to swap sides entirely.

Lots of little changes and a couple of big ones:

- You used to be able to set an option to launch ships on build (should be global setting with local override), I could then NOT have to visit each planet with a ship built, and worse, not have to select each ship and launch separately (otherwise the launch is for the FIRST ship built, not the last).

- Upgrade flag for terraform should be global so one place to shut it off, same with auto-upgrade, local setting should remain.

- Bonus tiles were fun. Now you hardly have any. I liked the challenge of figuring out how best to customize each world. Could be a game build setting like abundant planets... One bug though, Ai can build a super-project on a bonus tile which was silly as there were still non-bonus tiles to choose from. And it was a useful bonus that the idiot cost itself (then me when I conquered the planet).

- By the time you have researched all the technologies to build additional survey ships the anamalies are all gone. What is the point? Were they to occassionally reappear then this might be useful. With a small and static assignment of them, well, it is a waste of a concept. Either the ability should come much sooner, or the utility of survey must be improved.

- Would like a "Green" superability, Planet +30%, loyalty +10, Happyness +25, social +20; Economics +15; would not be bad to have a green political party either, would be pacificst... but would not have influence bonus, happiness instead?

- Ai basically never trades weapons research, even to allies and close friends. Try it, a 1 week research tech they want the world. It is silly... no, stupid... They will give away other techs that are far more valuable... Partly I think that this is from the conflict orientation of the game design thought process.

To be able to set AIs on teams instead of just being able to adjust their relations with only your race at the beginning of the game. It would be cool to set them all on different starting teams without being force to play scenarios which lock your race selection.

I would like the ability to play as the leader of an alliance of the minor races.  Just to make the advanced races think twice about attacking the minor races.

The minor races should also have the ability to develop tech that is specific to themselves.
