Are there any female computer geeks out there?

It seems as if only men are interested in computers and games

A question that I often ask myself. I didn't seem to meet any female computer/games geek out there so I'm asking does she/them exist in the real world or only she/they are only a fantasy. For example when my coworker got a new computer (P4 2.4 Ghz, 1024 MB memory) I asked her if it's faster then the old one (P3 600 Mhz, 256 MB memory) she replied: "I didn't notice any difference". The second example is I just started with playing the new Heroes of Might and Magic V and when I asked another my friend what she thinks about it when she was watching me playing it she said: "Colors are nice". How about this example. Another coworker got an OS upgrade from win2000 to winXP and she didn't even notice that I upgraded her OS?!

OK I admit those examples are a 'bit' extreme but it made me thinking about females and computers. Is it that computers are made by male for male that there are a lot more male computer geeks out there or is it just that generally females are not that attracted by technology. Shouldn't someone make computers and games that would appeal more to female users.

Please if they are any female computer geeks out there reply to this article just that I will know that female computer geeks exist in the real world as well and not just in my fantasies. Also can you write what kind of computers and games do you like. Me for example like laptops with big screens 17"-20" and good speakers. The most I like playing turn-based strategies (Civilization and Heroes of Might & Magic) and Sci-Fi RPGs (Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic) and NBA Live series.

Comments much appreciated.

Ok, I am being told that I have to answer this post by the "geeks" of #stardock.

I'm on the Web Dev team, and I love programming, and I love pc's.  I'm the "go to" person when the computer breaks in the family.  As for games... I'm not much for the fantasy role playing stuff.  I leave that to my husband.  I like puzzle games more... things that require more logic, I dunno.  I also like games where I can play against someone... like Mortal Kombat... LOL!  I used to love that game back in the day...is that sad?  I even like playing Madden Football... so long as I win.

As for the talk about females creating games... Cari here at Stardock was the programmer for Gal Civ 2.  She's probably a bigger geek than me.      Matter of fact, she's at Dragoncon as I type this.

So in theory, you are not alone.

My first reaction is that I resent the question. No hard feelings or anything
BTW, not all geeks are gamers & there are men who fit your examples as well as women.

They exist as I have dated quite a few lovely ones and will do so again...until I find one that will keep me.

So, happy hunting. In my experience, hotties with brains are hard to find but well worth the quest.

Why, thank you very much!

Actually, she/they is/are a figment of your imagination.

Here's a question I often ask myself: Are there many (or any, for the matter) 24 year computer geeks who know how to construct a grammatically correct sentence?

"geeks" started out as a highly derogatory carnival nickname for the otherwise unemployable carny hangers-on...in order to give them something to do, and perhaps draw a few customers to the midway, the "geeks", as they were known, used to work in a sideshow tent, admission was charged, say, a dollar, and the eager customers would get to see the "geeks" bite the head off a chicken.
The term "geek" still has a derogatory meaning among the majority, engendering visions of sloppiness, poor hygeine, and general disrepute. Not someone one would wish to associate with for the most part. Socially inept, shy, and awkward.
Just a riff on "geeks", as used here in the U S of A.
Maybe "wizards"?, or "gamers"?, or "programmers"?, "experienced users"?, "enthusiasts", yes, "enthusiasts" would probably be my choice.
[note: I haven't bitten the head off of a chicken, that I can recall, but I do occasionally wear a Geek Squad" t-shirt I got at a promo.]

Thanks for answering.
What do you suggest we should do, because I think it's kind of confusing if we have the same avatar...

In all fairness miss blackmoon should make a new avatar - only because the Avatars are what we recognise before we see the user name . I see that Avatar - I think of Jebro.

Besides blackmoon - wouldnt you prefer an avatar that will distinguish you from
others? One unique just to you...

I say seniority rules, but that's just me.

Oh yeah, on a more technical note, the avatars, while the same image, have a slightly different look to them.(i.e. look closely at the chin area)

Can someone please fix this post. Someone forgot to close a tag somewhere, so please edit it.

George Rogers, I had to remove the table you placed. It was causing an error on this page.

ModBlackmoon, I hope you take the suggestions here to heart. No one is trying to be an ass. The avatars are so small no one can see the difference in the eyes. Besides, as Fairyy said, wouldn't you want one unique to you? Everyone recognizes that avatar as Jebro. Sorry.

It's not a big deal really, I can remove mine if ModBlackmoon wants to keep it...

Almost done. Old avatar is deleted, but I can't upload new (I want to use my photo, I think it's better than search or create new avatar). I use 50x50jpeg, but when image is uploaded I see previous avatar again...Maybe someone can help me?

Sorry again. But, I think You understand that I don't knew.

Sure thing, go here log in and go into your 'my account', then try to upload the file. Usually works better than the WC site.
