Suggestion: Real galaxies!!!!

Hello, everyone, I got the game recently and love and bla (and its robbing me my waking hours)...

Anyway, I dont know anyhting about modding but I do have an idea for mod:

Why not make a couple of maps with solar system distributions that resemble real galaxies: for example:

A spiral, parts of spirals, certain clusters: like this the "spacey" feel gets stronger and doing maps for different parts of the REAL universe would bring up some interesting layouts of solar systems....

Plus I cant imagine that its that hard since all you need to do is copy a star map....

What you think?

PS:
PLEASE please please do this..:!
PPS:
How hard is it to do this if youre the average, fairly computer literate non-programmer?

The game only takes place in a certain part of the galaxy, not the whole thing. So having the entire galaxy visible wouldn't work.

Just increase the numer of stars to a 100 billion so it is an entire galaxy. Might need to upgrade your computer though.

Speaking of which...why havn't i seen a black hole yet? i've seen Wormholes....and 'other' holes, but no blackholes....i miss them

I'm not a programmer or a modder (but would like to be later on in my life, but right now I don't have a lot of knowlege about how this stuff works ). But I think that it could be a nice idea for a mod, having real solar systems. Maybe just have two or so on a map (with one sun and a lot of planets) and have asteroid belts (with anomalies found around that area, maybe even if you send your ship through the belt they could crash if they won't be equiped with the right techs etc) and all that stuff.

He didn't say increase the number to resemble real galaxies, he suggested that they make the layour resemble a real galaxy, you know spiral arms and such. Make it something like the map "epic"

Come on, How many exploration teams do you think would be eager to hop into a black hole?

I cannot think of any positive reason for their presence on the map.

On the plus side though, There is the Black Hole gun and the Blackhole Eruptor (Massdriver and Missile respectively) weapons.

Making a spiral galaxy map on huge would not be that much of a hard task, It is possible.

All you need to do is pull out notepad

This is an idea I've been thinking about for a custom map. Obviously, it would still be an abstraction -- just like everything else in the game is.

I'm just wondering if creating spiral arms and star clusters within even a gigantic map would be noticeable. In other words, could you create these paterns with enough detail to be recognizeable as such?

Daydream for Galciv III:

3 dimensional, ultra gigantic maps where groups of civilizations battle to create empires/alliances within spiral arms and or clusters before developing the engine and suppor technologies needed to colonize/explore other arms/clusters.

"So you finally defeated the Drengin in open warfare and formed a lasting alliance with the Arcean... wait till you encounter the Yor in the globular cluster next door!"

Oy, maybe for GalCiv 3 it will be a 3d 'board' =P, ah we can all dream.

Moo3 has a 3D galaxy map, with spiral arms and everything... 255 stars maximum, with a maximum of like 7 or 8 habitable planets each.

black holes and neutron stars, too, which serve to block passage, like seas or mountains in a land-based game.

also, the different races have different temperature, pressure, and gravity preferences, so what's good for one race will be awful for another.

16 playable races, and another 16 or so minors.

planets also have different mineral richnesses, fertility, and biodiversity, giving different production for mines and farms on different worlds.

oh, and production of mines and farms is further modified by if they are built on mountains or plains...

mountains on a mineral rich world have the best mines, while plains on a fertile, biodiverse world have the best farms.

i miss all this complexity, when i play GalCiv2, where planets are distilled down to a single integer Class, population is generic and raceless, there are no minerals, and farms on desert tiles of toxic litle worlds produce as much food as those on the aluvial plains of sweet-spot paradise planets.

hopefully, Moo3 will be locked in a room an bred with GalCiv2, to produce the next generation space TBS. oh, yes.

Did you know that wormholes actually revolve around eachother...and at the center of every galaxy is a dying blackhole spewing out all the materials needed for stars? They have pictures of an actual dying blackhole...it doesnt lose gravatational pull it just begins to expel everything it took in...blackholes are not conneted to other "holes" like wormholes they just take everything and smash it together...and a dying blackhole cannot capture light anymore...go look it up and you will see the picture of a real blackhole...just thought I'd let you all know.

One of the users on http://www.gc2builder.com created a map from the stars close to earth.
Check out the details http://www.gc2builder.com/viewtopic.php?t=115
You need to register to have access to downloads other than the map editor. There will be more and more exclusive content on the site as time goes by, so might as well register

Actually something like this is planned for GC2:Builder, most of the code has been written.

Moo3 had some very nice complexity in a horrible horrible format. I agree that in the next galciv perhaps different races will prefer different planets or at least SHOULD. It was noted somewhere in the 'bio's' for each race that Torians prefer worlds with more water. So why shouldnt a water world have a higher PQ for Torians then any other race? Just my opinion. Heck I dont see why they couldnt just alter racial planets in a patch down the road. Wouldnt be TO hard. Nothing to crazy of course just like a water world would be 2 PQ's higher for Torians, and other races respectifully for their own 'optimal' worlds. Some races might have the same optimal worlds but some variety would be nice.
