mysterious damage to starbases and ships

after playing a while (100-200 turns), my starbases and ships in space seem to suddenly take damage w/o being attacked. why?

also, can ships / starbases repair in space? i don't see this happening even with numerous repair techs...perhaps i missed what this repair feature is supposed to do?

The sudden damage could have been from the Tradegood Tri-Strontium Steel... it increases the overall hitpoints of yous ships, but not their current hit points. So they apear damaged. I think there might be some techs that do this too?
Mine repair fine... I don't know why yours don't...

i also think its the tri-strontium steel. And with any dhips near a starbase with the repair pod installed they come up very quickly to their new levels

If you get an increase in your bonus to Hitpoints as a result of Tri-Strontium-Steel or your lates anomaly findings, the maximum hitpoints of all your ships and starbases will change accordingly. Until your your ships and starbases have "repaired" to the maximum amount of hitpoints, they will appear to be damaged.

Also, if your political party is the "WarParty" you receive a +100% bonus to your starting hitpoints. If however your party (the WarParty) loses control of the senete, your bonus to hitpoints is decreased. If that happens, your ships and starbases will lose their hitpoints and when you win the senete again (and get your bonuses again), they will appear to be damaged.

I also noticed the damage but I think I was not in the conditions described.
I'll check next time.

The ships can repair themselves in space if you have researched at least one of the techs with the "repair" ability ("basic repair" is one). Some of the space anomalies give improvements to ship repair rates but I an uncertain if they provide any repair rate at all before you research one of the repair techs. I am also uncertain if the star base improvement "repair bay" will provide any repair of ships or star bases until a repair tech is researched.

I think an unexpected hitpoint bonus is happening somewhere well before you get to Tri-Strontium. I have noticed this in multiple recent games myself and haven't pinpointed exactly what is causing it. I have been assuming all is well and I just haven't been paying attention. :)

A number of techs also give +10% Hit Points, and there is one anomaly that gives +1% Hit Points, IIRC (and if there isn't, I may make one when I get around to adjusting stuff I've been poking at to Beta4A).
