Version 1.1B Precursor Ranger Events

Are they still a problem?

I'm about to reinstall GC2, patch it up, and play it... but before I do, can anyone tell me if the Precursor Ranger bug is fixed? The first game I played, I did not choose luck, but got 2 Rangers in the early game in a tiny galaxy - allowing me to win without actually doing any more research, building (of buildings), diplomacy, or even caring what I moved where.

So - is the Ranger Bonanza over? I saw nothing in the patch notes about it.

Any feedback - especially "I played a game to the end and never saw a Ranger" - would be valuable.

I don't think it's a bug. It's just a random event. I've played about 4-5 games (all on small-medium about 3 hours apiece) and i've only seen rangers once (the ai got it). I always have the lucky attribute. Mind that i'm still on my first game in 1.1B so (about 1 hour into it) ...

I've played 15-20 games and only 3-4 of those games had any precursor ships at all... and most of the time they're Corvette's. I did get Ranger's once, but by then I already had some fairly nice ships.

I'd say.. "You feelin' lucky?" because it ain't gonna happen any time soon...

I've had between 14-20 Rangers from Random Events in just about every game I've played to date but I always pick luck and universalist normally so my luck is up there

It also helps if you play with lots of anomolys that you can sweep up. (a good number of em are +1 to luck)

Well I only played one game completly, but every civilization got at least one of theese things.
I that was pretty annoying becaus tech rating was very slow and everyone had only 2 atk and 0 def ships when i got one with 40 atk and something around 35 def.
I diddnt liked it but had to use it since there wasnt any other way to kill the precusor ship of the other civilizations..

Maybe its just another problem with the german version wich will be solved once the patches working properly (I had them installed and playing now in english)

Playing through a Gigantic Universe, I got 3 rangers after 20 turns into the game. But thats maybe because I got the luck bonus ability and the luck bonus from the universalist. Rangers in the Gigantic universe are only good for protecting my main planets since they are slow as hell. The game would be almost over before I can send a Ranger to the other side of the map.

I've actually noticed odd trends. In my first few games I did not choose luck; I chose war party and got 3-4 rangers a YEAR. Then figuring having better luck would increase that amount I changed to Universalist and Luck. It dropped to 1-2 a GAME after that.

I just started realizing that so I will start a game back with my older settings to see if that indeed is true.

Note: this was pre 1.1B

I just finished losing a 1.1B game, and no Rangers came to my rescue. I'm much happier losing on my own merits than winning from a fluke

BTW - in my first game (release version), when I got Rangers, I did not choose "Luck". However, I DID choose Universalist Party, which I just realized gives a luck boost... so it could be that only "Lucky" or "Universalist" races experience the problem, or ICE300 + War Party

Thanks for the responses!
