Nvidia drvrs 81.98 NOT compatible?

The game worked fine with Nvidia 81.95 drivers..
But with 81.98 the intro movie would not show, and the in-game would be complete graphic garbage.. If I alt-tabed out, the desktop was okay, but alt-tabing back in the screen went to garbage.

I now updated to Nvidia beta drivers 84.20 and it works fine again (and the drivers are faster) .. but you have to get them from Nzone as beta drivers.

Can anyone else confirm this?

The 81.98 drivers work fine for me too. I still get the stutter on the tutorial and some videos due to my old video card. the opening movie works fine for me though.

I had nvidia geforce2 mx 400, was good with old drivers, but terrible with 81.98 (only 10% of ship components, no fog of war, etc). Currently with another card, so can't check again.

81.98 works for me. You can try dropping the anti-aliasing setting to get your movies to quit stuttering.

The game requires a fully DirectX9 compliant video card to display everything correctly; the GeForce4MX series are only DX7-compliant (the MX'es are actually not much more than slightly enhanced GeForce2's). To my knowledge the requirement of a DX9-compliant card is mentioned in the system requirements.

Unfortunately, there's no cure for it but to get a new videocard that supports all the neccessary features (you should be able to find a reasonably priced Radeon 9k series card or GeForce 5k/6k series card that does the trick).
hope that helps

I have a GeForce4 MX440, and the 81.98 didn't work for me either. Parts of the ships models were missing. The beta drivers you mentioned work fine though (84.20).

81.98's are OLD.. Nvidia is slow updating their public release drivers.. Might want to start using their beta drivers.. The best of the set are the 84.12's, but the 84.20's are very good. I prefer my drivers from here;

Don't mess with those old 81.98's.
