Performance Issues?

..specifically during battles

Sorry if this was listed somewhere else - I took a look around and was unable to find anything relevant, though I may have just overlooked it.

My system specs are as follows:

Athlon X2 4200
eVGA Nforce 4 SLI motherboard
2 x 1GB PC3200 DDR
2 x Geforce 7800 256mb in SLI
500 GB 7200 RPM SATA
Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Music Edition

Games run beautifully on this system, with the exception of battles in GC2. I've only got the resolution set to 1280x960, granted I do have all the other options cranked up, but given my system specs I don't see why this should be a problem. But it is, during animated fleet battles, it stutters constantly.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT I did already see the post about needing a driver update for the dual core processor. But that driver "update" is dated May 2005 - I've already got it installed (had to grab it back in November when I built this system as was having trouble in other games).

Are you playing across 2 monitors? You would probably get better performance on just one monitor.

Also, are you using the SLI drivers for your video cards, or the latest driver from the NVidia website?

You should also check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your sound card.

I wonder how many polygons are used to represent your ships. We have seen some people upload pictures of their movie quality ship models with probably a million polygons! How complex are your ship models?

SLI doesn't support multiple monitors.

I will try updating drivers tonight - haven't done so in probably about a month. And yes, using the official NVidia drivers.

As for polygons, the stuttering is persistent whether its a battle with small fighters or large capital ships - no better/no worse, which really makes me think its a bug or conflict, not an FPS problem. It isn't a constant stuttering, it specifically seems to happen right before a ship fires weapons. It is playable, no doubt about that, just with my specs I would expect it to be smoother.

I mean, if I can run a system killer like Battlefield 2 at 1280x960 with AA enabled and whatnot and still get 50-60 FPS, this game should be cake.

I get the same problem, though my specs are much lower. Funny thing is, I didnt get the problem on the demo.
