No Copy Protection, is it really that big a deal?

Answer: abso-frickin-lutely if you ask me. I would just like to applaud Stardock on this one more time because, quite frankly, it DOES make a difference to me on what I buy. There are a lot of great games out there now and I am limited to the amount of time I have to play. When games use "invasive" anti piracy techniques that's an automatic no sale for me - like I said, there are just so many good options out right now. My most recent example - HOMM5. Was I looking forward to it? You bet. DId it look ike a winner? I think so. Am I going to buy it. No way...

Thanks again Stardock. I am spreading the word!

Yup, I've picked up bargain bin games that won't install on my current machine because of the copy protection having to deal with a more modern machine than it was written for.

it's a big deal to me. especially in an age of having multiple cds to install. i really detest having to keep a bunch of cds around to play a game that's using gigs of hard drive space already.

It's a big deal for me too, I don't like paiying another $40 because my CD got scretched.
Also most copy protections are nothing but trouble for your Windows.
Also if Windows gets updated or hardware (like moving to SATA) it might not work at all because copy protection .
Not to mention you have to have CD in drive all the time this not only unconvinient but causes it get damaged more therefore you will have to buy another one...

Same for me. I removed that Starforce crap having played "D-Day" a bit (a friend of mine gave it to me, it wouldn't run on his machine) and I won't buy Heroes of Starforce V for this reason. I'm a big fan of the HOMM series, especially of HOMM 3, but this Starforce thing is disgusting.

I love the lack of copy protection because I pay for my games and don't like being pre-punished for piracy that I'm not involved in.

I also hate having to put a CD in to play a game that I've paid for - it's one of the worst things ever in the gaming industry.

I deal with Starforce to play some games that I must play, like UFO: Aftershock, because there simply are not enough games of that type, even though I hate how Starforce or Webtangents webdriver work. I remove Starforce whenever I'm not actively playing the games it "protects" since it reinstalls on demand.
