Low Virtual Memory?

Hi there,

I noticed that when I finish a 3-4 hour session of Gal Civ 2, that when I exit the game windows is complaining of low virtual memory. I currently have half a gig of ram and a 128 meg ATI video card.

Not sure if this is a bug, or my system just sucks.

Anyone else notice this?

A half a gig of RAM isn't much (it is the bare minimum you want for an XP system). You may want to increase that as well as increasing your vritual memory.

I have 512MB RAM and 512MB virtual memory. How much virtual memory is optimal? On Linux the norm is 2X physical memory and some tool wanted to increase mine on WinXP to 750MB 1.5X.

1) Open My Computer

2) On the frame on the left, choose View System Information

3) Click on Advanced

4) Click on the Settings button under Peformance.

5) Click on Advanced.

6) Click on Change.

It should tell you how much is recommended and what is the maximum size you can set.  I believe that this varies depending on the size of your hard drive. However, if your motherboard can support more RAM, I highly recommend getting more as it will improve the performance of all your programs, and the performance of Windows itself.

www.chiefvalue.com has really good deals on RAM, and RAM is generally easy to install. You just have to make sure that you discharge any static electricity on you before you try installing it, or you may fry it.

Thanks for the info!

Its not a big deal. I am getting a new system as soon as oblivion goes gold! Oblivion and Gal Civ 2 ... so long friends and family!

Just thought I would report it in case it was a dreaded memory leak ...
