Invading Home Worlds?

I've been playing my first game and last night I wasn't able to land my troops on the homeworld of a civilization that declared war on me. I waited a turn thinking my ship didn't have enough move points to do it. The next turn I still wasn't able to but when I targeted the level 5 planet next to it I was able to land and take that one. Are homeworlds nat able to be invaded or does it take higher tech?

Were there any ships in orbit around the homeworld? You can't invade when there is something in orbit. Or perhaps you were just out of range?

Hmm, it's possible there were some ships in orbit but I didn't see it on screen. He launched a few ships a turn or two after I invaded the other world. Thanks for the info.

You can also tell if there are defending ships in orbit around a planet by the shield icon by the planet. If there's a shield icon, there are defenders that must be defeated before sending in the transports. To attack the planet's defenders, just attack (right-click) the planet with your warships, same as you would for attacking a fleet.
