Should I buy this game

Okay so I have been following the progession of GalCiv2 for some time. I have never played GalCiv1. The last game I played like this was Master of Orion 3, if you can call the 2 days of hell I put my self through trying to like it. Needless to say I didnt. My personal favorite X4 game is Moo2(with 1 a close second). How does this game compare? How complicated is it? Are the control intuitive yet have depth?

I am wondering if I should drop the money on this or wait till Sword of the Stars comes out and see how they compare.

You realize asking this on the official forum for the game is likely to generate pretty much nothing but "BUY IT NOW" responses, right? Especially given that until 3pm or so today, the vast majority of us still haven't played a single game of GalCiv 2.

That said... most of us consider the GalCiv franchise to be what MOO3 should have been, even if the Devs take pains from time to time to point that there are differences in the series.

If you really want to know, though, browse around the site. A ton of preview content has been posted, including a gameplay video, two writeups of games played from start to finish, a whole series of very open and informative development journals, and a large quantity of screenshots. If you can't get enough objective information about the game from all of that, nothing anyone says here is going to satisfy you until we've played the game.

To add to Ash's post, a demo is also currently planned to be released shortly after the actual game. I don't know how long 'shortly' actually is though.

This is my first 4X game ever, but from the looks of it I just couldn't resist. Seems to be a really cool game from what I have seen so far.

I too fought with MOO3. I then discovered GalCiv. Great, great game. It was good enough to get me to preorder GalCiv2...the first game I ever preordered. Iplayed through the beta. I believe you would enjoy it. Yes, it is intuitive and easy to learn but will also keep you well immersed as you learn various techniques and tactics.

Also, the community is one of the best I have seen and Stardock is amazing. I have not found such a level of support before from a software company. I have many of their object desktop products and windowblinds too.

Okay one other question.

The only review out there states that you can install the game on multiple pcs, as long as they are all yours. Does this apply to both the retail CD version and the downloadable version? I ask because I prefer to play on my desktop at home, but I also would like to install it on my laptop for when I travel(be a good way to waste 8 hours on a flight overseas).

Yes you should. You will not be disappointed. I have played through all the betas and the gamma and can tell you that it is a remarkable game. MOO 1 & 2 were great. GalCiv 2 is epic. Ditto was Ash said. There is a metric butt load of info about this game available. You can also d/l Stardock Central and join the chat there.

Yes.  You can do what you describe with either version.

Having also struggled to like MOO3, and promptly threw it out the window and drove over the disks with a truck, I tried GalCiv1 after that experience. What a breath of fresh air. From all accounts, GalCiv2 looks to improve on everything in GalCiv1, without compromising what made the game fun. I pre-ordered it also. Right now, as I see it, it reigns supreme for the conquer the galaxy 4x genre. Civ4 reigns for the conquer the planet 4x

My dream of becoming a goat farmer rests on your ultimate decision.

I didn't like what I saw in the Demo for GalCiv1. But I spent time here on the website and forums and read as much as I could about GalCiv2. I preordered after about a day or so.

I love MOO2. I do not expect GalCiv2 to be another Master of Orion game. BUT. I do expect it to be the kind of game that I love to play. So, if you want advice from someone who just re-purchased MOO2 because he loves it so much...

BUY THE DAMN GAME! NOW!

Note: I meant, buy GalCiv2 now. Not MOO2. Just a clarification.

Well you can now pursue your dream as a goat farmer. I bought the game and just downloaded it. I started a game and it already plays a lot nicer then moo3 when I first played that
