Download error - can't find url.

erm I feel a bit awkward posting the first prob but it doesn't seem to fit the categories listed in "download woes" by Brad, maybe it does?. The log is immense but the key to it is it can't find the url. an extract follows:

-- [Installation] ---------------------------------------------------

if you need the full log let me know please,

Had a similar problem, was defined as I was not allowed to d/l the current version that was on SDC because I was not authorized too or something to that vein. Was only beta and the version even though it said beta was actually some sort of nonworking hybrid.

Hello Steevodeevo

I've just had the same problem:

-- [Application] ----------------------------------------------------
Name: Stardock Central
Path: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral
Version: 2.24a[b].182, build: 113

-- [Installing] -----------------------------------------------------

Name: Galactic Civilizations II
App Id: gc2
Installed: False
Version: 1.0.005
Type: production
Reg Key: GalCiv2
Install Dir: D:\Jeux\Galciv2
Exe: gc2launch.exe
Last Updated: 02/14/2006

Error: Attempt: 1 | -14 The Url is invalid
Error: Attempt: 2 | -14 The Url is invalid
Error: Attempt: 3 | -14 The Url is invalid
Result: Installation failed (9)

I then checked my settings (under tools menu) and changed the server from california to chicago.
I've started again a few minutes ago, at a rate ranging from 200kb/s to 400kb/s. 69%complete (main directory)

IT WORKS !!!
IT WORKS!!!!!!

Good job stardock

We're actually still in the process of updating the files so things are in flux.

You may want to wait just a bit longer so that all the paths are updated. You're literally getting changes in real-time.

Say 3pm EST.

You also may want to check your serial numbers again.

I just did, its different.

So ordered

I guess we jumped the gun...

I got a bit mixed up with the time differential. It's only when I posted that I saw it was just about 14h30 ("stardock time") when i started downloading

I had to cancel it anyway because it was a little to big for the HD i was installing it to. When it got to the movies I got a warning. About 1Go in the end

2 more minutes to go

It's our bad, we said 2:30pm. It's just the slowness of the network in getting all those files time stamped consistently across the servers and such.

In the meantime, make sure you have Stardock Central 2.29a. It has a bunch of new support features.

Being a glutton for non-punishment, I d/l the sdc from stardock.com about a 45 minutes ago, installed it and restarted... just because I hate the... well I told you so smirk

Thanks Frogboy.
And I should say that they were there at 2:30 pm.
And thanks for the heads up on SDC. (when i launched it , it did not prompt for an update as it usually does).

I can't see it either - I also noticed that over the months, my serial number that's provided via lookup has changed several times - which one should I be using? The fourI have start with 7C9 (the one that originally was emailed when I ordered in November), D8A, 7C1, and finally, 4E2.

I don't even see GalCiv2 in the list

that's strange.
I have it. Just started again (much slower 40-50kb/s I guess more people are at it)

I know I have "shox pre release versions" checked. Maybe that's it.
Good luck

heheheh

server maintenance... its a conspiracy!

I had to uninstall SDC completely to get it working. But hey, now it works!

On a related matter, can I move the downloaded files from my desktop to my laptop, or will I have to pre-load twice? Hope not.

Just reinstalling SDCentral using the download from here fixed it - odd, since I had already done an update today to 2.29.

Hi monoxism, YumCimil

I hadn't seen your post when I posted. I guess that was not it.
Frogboy posted in another thread that he would be online in the chat section.
Maybe someone from stardock can help you there

As far as i remember from galciv1 , as long as you archive it (with sdc) and reinstall that archive with sdc on another computer, it should work

I don't even see GalCiv2 in the list ;(

I don't see GalCiv2 on my list either, even after changing the option to show pre-release versions of applications.

From what I understand we of the old subscription system should get GalCiv2 without tokens, as these appear in the new system. I had access and had the beta on my disk during beta.

My version of Stardock Central is 2.29.370 build:115

My current server is Chicago.

Any suggestion? I want my share of painful download

I too have the old subscription. and i think that it is my old serial number from the subscription that is registered on sdc.

And
By the way, like Suralle, my current sdc version is 2.29a build 116.
I got it from the link frogboy provided in post #6

good luck

Did you enter in your GalCiv II serial #?

 Tools->Register products.

If you used the same email address to order the game as you do here, it should pick it up.  But a lot of people use different email addresses for forums than they do to purchase things and the system can't automatically tell which is with.

Also: YOU MUST BE USING 2.29 or LATER.  Go to downloads section and get that if you're using an older version.

I had the same thing as monoxism and YumCimil - after auto-updating StardockCentral to 2.29a, GalCiv2 wasn't there no matter what I tried, but after I uninstalled SDC an installed it from scratch - bingo, everything is fine and I can download.
