Collectors Preorder = What?

I'm really sick at the moment, so I'm going to make this short...and go sleep.

What do I get with the Collectors Edition that I don't with the regular edition? In game (new ship parts), and out of game (posters).

Also, if I preorder the game online, say from Stardock directly...am I still going to get a DVD at some point?

With the collectors edition, you do indeed get new ship parts (only cosmetic parts), and you get a fold out tech-tree poster. You also get a spiffy GalCiv 2 desktop skin, and a collector's edition box (which clearly says "Collector's Edition" on it ).

If you preorder online from Stardock directly, you have the option between the electronic download version and the boxed physical version. With the former, you can later opt to email sales@stardock.com and pay them the shipping & handling for a physical copy to be sent. With the latter, they'll also send you a temporary serial number to download and play the game while you wait for it to ship, and you can use your permanent serial number (in the box) to just download the game like the electronic version if you ever lose the disc.

I put a preorder in at EB yesterday but they can't confirm it is the collector ed. or not. I brought the sku that Brad had posted to match it with but they use a serial #???? Anyway, I hope I get the coll. ed. because I don't want to hunt down brad and hijack him for ransom

I need to know how to get the collectors edition though. All preorders online are collectors, or what? I don't want to accidentally buy a "basic" version and be stuck with it forever.

Q: I want to purchase the game at Stardock and download immediately but I still want the box. Can I do this?

A: YES. If you purchase the second option (CD purchase) you still get a serial # to download the game. That serial # is temporary (i.e. will expire) but will let you play the game until the box arrives.



Q: If I bought the game for download only, can I still get the box/CD later?

A: Yes. Just requires shipping and handling.



Q: If I pre-order at will I get the Collector' Edition?

A: In North America, as far as we know, ALL pre-orders are being fulfilled with the Collector's Edition. Walmart, EB, and Gamestop explicitly mention it on their sites for instance.

Brad has also said that if you preorder and for some reason don't get the collector's edition you can contact Stardock and they'll make it right (since they know which serial numbers were in the first batch that went out). In other words, don't bring it back to the store, because that makes Stardock look bad.

Stardock isn't North America, since it's over the net, and they are the developer, not the publisher, so I'd think if anything they'd burn me a DVD and send it in a plastic jewel case. Now if I order from Stardock, with the CD option today, will I get the Collectors Edition as opposed to if I go to EB Games (where I am dealing in North America, directly with the publisher).

Sorry for the long delay between posts - sick as I said...which may also be affecting my logic with this. Heh.

Stardock is both publisher and developer, and Take 2 is merely distributing the game out to the retailers. It makes no difference if you preorder from Stardock directly or from EB Games, both will get you the same thing. Some EB stores are saying that they don't know if their preorder is the collector's edition or not, but Brad/Frogboy has said that all of them (at least in the U.S., probably Canada) will have it.

I pre-ordered directly from stardock today. A couple of questions if I may:

1. I used the electronic delivery option. Will I be able to later come back and request that the physical box + media + manuals be sent to me? (Reading the above, I assume that the answer is "yes", if I supply s+h)
a. What form will that physical box be? Basic or Collector's Edition?
2. Why is Stardock's price ($44.95+s.h.) more than say, Walmarts ($39.82+s.h.)?
a. Pre-Orders from the retailers are said to be Collector's Editions. So if I ordered from Walmart, I would get one of those, but since I ordered from Stardock, am I screwed?

You had me at "Collector's Edition". I actually ordered from Stardock figuring I would get you guys the most $$ by eliminating the middle man. Truely an inspirational company.

Stardock only sales at the MSRP so they don't under cut retailers. Some retailers may choose to sell below the MSRP (cutting into their profit margin).
