Well, the second SG is in the books. All teams have achieved victory. BamBam is organizing a new SG, for pre-patch play, and I will do something new after the expansion is released. I hope all lurkers enjoyed their time here, and you are now all free to speak openly about the games in any of the threads. - Sirian
"growing up together" works on small and mid size games but not on large/hughe/gigantic.
Not so. Works fine on any map size or habitability rating, including gigantic with abundant habitability. Does rushbuying a few improvements on a few planets in the few situations where you settle planets late equate to micromanagement? Yes, it does. Does it compare to the micromanagement of individually managing production at each planet in the rest of your empire for
It's a design decision that I disagree with but since I'm not the designer I'll just find work arounds - as everyone else has apparently done.
I love this design decision. In my view, it is what lifts GalCiv head and shoulders above all similar games. If there would be gains to be had by managing each planet individually, I would feel compelled to pursue them. This way, I cannot manage more than a few things per turn, with everything else along for the ride. That is imme

The best way to avoid wasteful spending is a method I call "growing up together". If you run 100% military to start, until you have all the colony ships you need in the land grab phase, then you run 100% science (spending only what you need to make key early discoveries as quickly as you can manage), you buy time for the latter colony ships to arrive, or at least get closer. Then you start your social spending, at max, with all planets starting on the same footing. The smaller, slower ones can c

Frostblade: yes, Team G is still short a player and could use your help. We can only include you if you have not yet looked at the threads for the other two teams, though. If you have seen the reports from Teams N or E, that information would spoil your chance. If you have not, and you would like to join Team G, we'd be very happy to have you. :) - Sirian

Christianity has over two billion adherents, and is the largest religion in the world. Islam is next with just over one billion, and Hinduism is third with close to 800 million. These are not exact figures, clearly, and they do not account for factions within these religions, whose specific beliefs often vary widely. But when you combine Jewish, Christian, and Muslim adherents -- believers in what amount to three iterations of the same core philosophy from the same roots, each building upon the

We've had a roster change in Team G. One of our players is departing.
I'm going to have to slip out of our game. Something has come up in my personal life - AmulekBird
This happens regularly, when gathering a group of folks to undertake a joint venture. Something in real life changes for somebody and they have to switch priorities. Each additional person added to the effort only increases the chances of somebody departing. We wish AmulekBird the best. A

Did I come to the right place? :SURPRISED: I was looking for the MWC thread. LOL Anyway, just poking my head in the door to offer neighborly greetings to our Breadbasket Buddies. Uh, wherever they may be, while the hobbits and Jedi are raiding the cookie jar. (Looks both ways, sees nobody watching, snatches an Oreo or two for himself.) OK, I'm headin out now. Ya'll stop on down to RB if you're in the neighborhood. We'll brew up a pot o coffee and offer you a doughnut or a piece
I never knew Altarians to have such a sadistic streak...
I'm not sadistic. No pain no gain, right? It's only sadism if you delight in torturing others. ... ... ... OK, perhaps I'm a WEE BIT sadistic now and then. LOL But don't spook the new arrivals. There are no gimmicks or surprises on this map. (The map editor's not out yet! What do you expect?) OK I think I should stop talking now. :) I seem to be digging a deeper

Who told you about-- Erm, I mean, what makes you believe we have any illegal alien pornography? :SURPRISED: Rumors about my so-called "extensive collection" of photographs of "Altarian Body Art" are entirely false, being spread primarily by the tabloids over at Special Forces. I am not, repeat, not an Altarian. And I don't have any Altarian Brandy, so please do not ransack my quarters a third time looking for a supposed "secret cache". If I did have a secret stash, I certainly would not keep it

Woops. Where did the Edit option go? I was counting on the ability to edit the links into the first post in the thread, once the games were started. :( Well, for now, I'll put them here, and hope to regain access to Editing so I can add them in where they belong at a later time. Each thread has full procedural instructions. If you need further help, ask your team captain, ask here, or email me. Feel free to visit your team's thread and have a look around. Up to your captain to set the roster order and determine who plays first. The early game is more lively in GalCiv than in Civ3, thus more urgency to get off to a good start. Zed will probably play first for that reason, but that's his decision. - Sirian
Good timing, Sirian---what a vicious cross-post. Don't I look the fool!!
Nah. You are closer to the mark than you may imagine. :) Those ARE the things that might have distracted me, plus dinner. The real deal, though, is that I took my time playing my turn for Team G and our thread will open with a thoroughly detailed report. Plus writing full instructions covering procedures. I'll get back to Morrowind tonight AFTER I get the SG's off the ground. LOL That will b
I'm astonished you can find the grog.
Ya. Northern hemisphere or western hemisphere. The "northwestern" would be a quadrisphere. :)
North of what and west of where.
Well now it's my Canuck friend who's downing too much liquor. ;) Clearly that would be the conventional references, north of the equator and west of the prime meridian. Grenwich mean time... I'm in the process of getting the event started. There's still a couple of slots we'd like to fill. We could accept signups as late as into the first round, although once the second round begins and everyone has had a turn, the rosters will be closed. Better to have everyone signed up before the games begin, however, to better balance the teams and make sure everyone gets onto a team they can be happy with. Tonight is your last chance to sign up in advance. :) Don't wait for the trend,

You can tell I've been immersed in Morrowind, because I'm still shieldless here in Stardock land. Oops. I should play and post a game here soon, lest my inattention allow those folks up north to sneak up on us. :D I mean, yeah, we can hear em coming as all that snow crunches beneath their boots, but if we just sit there, they'll whack us on the head for sure. LOL - Sirian
