Wow. That actually sounds pretty good. Simple, elegant, streamlined. Sounds like potential.

STALKER may be a first person shooter, but some of that more powerful processing power goes to creating the super whiz bag amazing A.I. and life like procedures performed by the characters in each zone before you enter them. I would say it is the same, because while the image quality is sharper and shinier, they're really just creating more images on your monitor, and creating several thousand objects in an RTS game would be the equivalent of creating an explosive action packed sc
Right now I'm not making enough credits, and if I'm supposedly Emperor over the domain of all that I see, why can't I shake my fist and demand more money from the people? Right now can you honestly tell me you know where your money is coming from? I upgrade all of my planets, I have trade ports making cash, I've got trade alliances with some players, and I have mines built on asteroids. Which one is most effectively bringing in money? No one knew that
I'd like to cite the game STALKER or Half Life 1/2 Those were first person shooter games, that really pushed the threshold when it came to graphics. Sort of. Stalker on a good system can look pretty darn good, but is still designed to run on a lower end system. The game is still good with low graphics, it's not like the game play is ruined not running it on max, but most people will work to make their game run a little better looking then their system can manage. Half
I've got a dual core and I can't tell if it makes the game run any better. Although, I like to play the game in a window and I watch a video on my computer either dvd, avi/mpg, or something online, and whenever I do that the game sometimes crawls to a halt. In full screen the game runs fine, but sometimes in windows mode it just comes to a complete halt. Sometimes when zoomed in on a little combat or zoomed out with nothing going on the frame rate drops. I'd like to
Before any one responds to this, let me begin by saying that I know this is the Beta and not everything in the final game is in this. With that said, I feel that there is some discussion/issues that should/could be addressed about the "civilian" side of the game. 1. More Space infrastructure -As it stands now, it feels like there are enough space structures that you can build in orbit around a planet, but it steel feels like there are a couple missing or something,
Do you think you could post a more thorough how to mod? I managed to replace the backgrounds with the file you provided, and did end space to look as dark as it should be, but the stars didn't show up well. How did you manage to get the stars to look so good?
i don't mean contrast, i literally mean i feel the game is just too bright. Ya ya maybe it's my monitor, maybe i could just adjust my monitor, but i would rather have a way to turn down the brightness. I guess if I had the ability to adjust my contrast or gamma that also would make things darker.
i think what the game really needs is a slider to make it darker/brighter.
Agree. I was really expecting there to be more then just fighters or bombers. What about interceptors, or boarding ships that capture enemy ships, or bombs that attack the surface of planets? I would love to be able to build SWACS and deploy them to scout out enemy territory, or nuke bombers that are carrying nuclear missiles and if they deploy them into the cluster of enemy ships it'll take them all out. Right now it feels like carriers are kind of under utilized and that fighter
This game in development compared to where it will be in a year will be so radically different that anything we do now won't matter that much. Don't get me wrong, love the decision to wait, was really worried that some features would have to be added in later or modded in. Right now we're testing the game engine and the graphics engine, I get the feeling that if the graphics engine doesn't get at least one or two updates to it by 2008 people will feel the game looks dated. Tha
Is anyone else left with the feeling of not really knowing what to do right now? I mean, I keep playing the game, and right now I feel like I've mastered the TEC. The game runs flawlessly on my computer, I notice very few bugs or errors or things that need improvement. I know the next update with be in June, but for now I feel like there is some other way I can contribute, but I can't think of anything. Ironclad, is there anyway you could throw us a bone and give us
Ya.....I prefer the term dreadnought too. It sounds more....spacey. Spartan, got to agree with you, everyone sees a different dreadnought in their head I guess. I just imagine a very large floating weapons platform that can operate solely or with support ships, maybe even the capability to produce support ships. I guess the best design decision would be to release multiple dreadnought type ships, an all weapons based one-I'm thinking death star meets super star dest
I think this is an issue they might be aware of...just not entirely sure the full extent of the issue, and every report of strange behavior helps paint a full picture. I still have a mostly complete phase inhibitor acting like a fully complete one, not allowing my ships to escape and making it so the enemy is stuck in my system. It also sucks to have a bunch of your ships trapped by your allies phase inhibitor-especially since they can't just destroy it to leave the system without anger
Agree voyager. Games like Age of Empires II, where you build foot soldiers, archers, and pike men to counter act different units does get monotonous. A game where a carrier can stand toe to toe with a battleship, but in the end the battleship usually wins, makes things exciting. The carrier fires missiles and flack while launching its bomber wings to attack the battleship, while the battleship fires it's main batteries to take on the carrier. When one ship can t
My reasons: 1. OH CRUD MOMENTS: Moments in a game where you just go "Oh crud." I had sent out an "expeditionary force" of about 3-5 capital ships into a new solar system. I figured it could explore around a little bit, maybe capture a planet, establish a foot base. It did way more then that. I captured like three planets and just caused general mayhem in the enemy solar system until all of a sudden we were trapped in a system with a jump inhibitor when the enemies entire fleet
Various thoughts on swarming and anti-swarming incentives: 1. NUKES: I know nukes are already in the game. You can drop them on planets, and there is a special ability to zap a ship with a nuke and disable it. I suggest they add a real ship that launches REAL nukes. Or make it an option to build a certain number of nukes per ship. For example, a carrier could hold 3 nukes. You could order it to fire a nuke that would fly towards an enemy fleet and take out tons of enemy ships. That
I think that if all of the current capital ships get enlarged 300% things would look bad because all of the ships would be way to large. I think the game definitely needs larger ships though. Right now it feels like I'm building frigates, then destroyers.....then just more destroyers. It feels like we're missing at least three more classes of ships. Cruisers, Battleships, and then Mega class ships, with Carriers falling under a separate category. Frigates would
Aesthetics ~I feel the game is too bright. Maybe that's me, maybe I should just turn down the brightness on my monitor. Or there could be a slider to arrange the brightness. ~I'd really really like radio chatter. ~Could fighter bullets be more visible, and maybe have them launch anti-fighter missiles.
How do you turn on stacking? Why couldn't we just double click a unit?
Thanks for reading my post! Let me clarify, a solar system would be set up just like the current planets with gravity wells. Ships would literally have to use their engines to fly towards another planet and attack the enemy. FTL drives would spin up when you used a phase lane to travel to other solar systems. What I would like to see is a test demo. Some galaxies or settings that let us try out some of the different ideas and see how bad they are. I agree with yo
1. I feel the game needs space dust or debris or asteroids moving by, something giving a sense of speed and that there is stuff floating around in space. it will have that, depries from destroyed stuff. That you will be able to haul in for resources. You take me too literally. I know the game will have debris from ships to be used as resources. I mean the g
I think that in arguing for or against space lanes, you have to look at what other games have done. Comparing SOASE to past games it's evident that it isn't necessarily an original idea, but you can definitely see the potential for it to either work or fail. Cases against random hyperspace: Rebellion : The game had it's pluses...and it's negatives. Fleets would pop up in a system, destroy everything on the planet, and then disappear to another sy
1. I feel the game needs space dust or debris or asteroids moving by, something giving a sense of speed and that there is stuff floating around in space. 2. Voices for ships needs to be far more varied. Also, garbled space chatter, freighters and trader ship chatter, radio static voices from the fighter pilots? 3. Diplomacy is like Age of Empires. I have no idea what I'm doing or how to make people like me. Galciv 2 has great AI because it really seems like what you do matters
Sometimes, I want to leave my fighters behind. I once had to use them to cover my one retreating carrier. They bought me enough time to get to the edge of the system, but then I had to wait for them to dock as a whole fleet approached me.
