I've noticed that the AI falls to pieces on massive galaxies, even on hard difficulties. It doesn't seem to know what to do when it's not particularly pressured by other races' borders. It works delightfully on normal - largeish maps, but the biggest sizes seem to make it give up the ghost.

I don't think it's that you lose a turn, it's that you gain an empty turn. I noticed this as well... I mentioned in another thread that if you save with the Council Meetings "next week", and then load it takes two presses of the turn button before the council assembles. Weird.
Version 1.0X was a bonus update that preceded 1.1, if I remember rightly
-Rather then having the 3 colour bars for selecting a colour, have a full palet like you would find in any art program That's what the three colour bars essentially do. You can mix any colour out of the 16.7 million available with those sliders. You've already got the most choice you can have <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles
I think the trouble with the DL campaign is that it *is* so unforgiving... there's really not much help from the game itself as to how you might go about beating the DL ships. Most of the time they just tend to destroy me, maybe because I haven't learnt all the nuances of managing planets and resources yet... I feel that I'm being punished rather than instructed. Coupled with the semi-random nature of missions where sometimes the DL are protected against your weapons and sometimes the
I don't see the point in colouring ships... that's what you set your race's ship colour for at the start, to make them identifiable as yours But decals could be interesting.
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to go exploring a black hole. Once you pass the event horizon, you're doomed
Sadly the idea of getting first strike will be useless soon as that's going to be fixed. Given that it's a good way to survive this bastard-hard race's attacks, does this mean the Dread Lords will be toned down a bit to improve balance? I sure hope so
It'd be interesting to see a "generalised" invasion advantage that doesn't change (eg. 15 +/- 10 vs 5 +/- 3) and then when you click "invade" it picks the final two numbers. I'm sure it's meant to be fast enough so that reflexes do not play a part and that it is random... but I agree that it does feel a bit like playing a really fidgety arcade game when you invade
One thing that I feel in GC2 is that I never really seem to have "control" over my civilisation and that I have to just remember what planet is doing what and who is where. I'd like to see perhaps the "focus" of a planet (research, military or civil) as well as the number for these stats on the planet list screen. This would help me to see which planets I'm using for research could be quickly refocussed for military production in times of war (ie. the ones that have a shipyard). Perha
I played on the hardest difficulty on a tiny galaxy with all races. I played humans, and I'm not a very good GC2 strategist yet. The AI completely wiped the floor with me, establishing massive trading routes and threatening me when their borders wanted to push in to mine. Then I tried it again on the largest galaxy size... and the AI hardly cared. I was able to do a lot more and get a lot further. I haven't really bothered to finish that game because it was taking too long, but the AI
I've only played 1.1 and have never seen any pirates, even though the other races are apparently at war with them.
I would like them to steal the music from Jumpgate, a truly horrible game with great space music. I feel the same way about EVE Online. :/
SC2 I found very, very difficult... I tended to die, well, all the time really. It did have a lot of personality though, moreso than GC2. For example, those crazy robots that constantly babbled "WE COME IN PEACE!" before blowing your ship to bits. Or the completely intimidated races that would quake in fear even though you were just saying hello. Very well scripted game, full of inventive ideas, but very ridiculously over-the-top difficult. <img src="http://image
That might work for one generation of Dread Lord ships, but once they've noticed what you're designing, the later generations will just annihilate you. I had DL ships coming after me with 114-power lasers and over 50HP at a time when the best thing I had was a Laser V and basic shielding. Are they ridiculously overpowered? I'd say yes
Yeah, I know that software coding can take a very long time sometimes... I've worked on many web applications in the past, including some rather large user management systems (though I did UI / graphic design and a little teensy bit of code as I'm not a coder by heart, but I know a little). So I can of course appreciate that Stardock may not have the time or resources to deal with everything. Heck, you just have to look at the bug trackers for any moderately successful free software p
Okay, after I got through the initial awful experience of SDC and into the game proper, I had a good time. Very good, in fact. However, I've noticed a few little UI niggles and crashes. Whilst I can't do much about the latter, I've got some suggestions for the former. Some may have been mentioned before in one of the many numerous such threads, so please bear with me Version is 1.1, clean install. Here we go... 1.
This is an example of many comments made by the OP. It borders on being trollish, haughty, and arrogant. Also the way the OP does things or wants things done is the best in his/her view any other way is "wrong". This is silly. If you really need help learning the game and getting over the learning curve, those tutorials are priceless. So you k
So I decide to download the demo of GC2 and give it a whirl. Sure, the UI needs a bit of helps (lots of visual anomalies and 'stuck' graphics eg. buttons that do not correctly update their visual state when changing between races). I found the game initially overwhelming and the tutorial PDF a bit lacklustre - it would have been better to have built the tutorial into the game proper - I'm not sure the video tutorials will be of much worth. I'd rather play and be taught as I play. Bu
