Preorder price discrepancy

How come it's more expensive to order through Stardock than through those other game stores? $44.95 (electronic download) vs. $39.99 (box with goodies, and no shipping if you buy in-store).

Is it possible they've factored local sales tax into the charge?

the 15$ differance is hard to account for.
i assumed what ever extra ship components you got from pre-oder were VERY good. like terror star good

It's because Stardock is selling the game at its recommended retail price. Other stores have flexibility to cut their profit margins and go below that price. However, if Stardock lowered its price, all heck would break loose when the retailers learn about it.

$15?
44.95 - 39.99 = 4.96

(Yes, plus $10 for shipping in the Stardock shop, but shipping isn't included in the other price either.)

cant edit my post atm, i dont know where i got the 15 number, but its still odd that it costs more in the first place.

perhaps they want to assauge the fears of destributors beeing secondary sellers. and thusly send more buisness to stardocks buisness parteners.

Well, it's about $17 for me. Cause its 44.95 USD and i'm in canada, so that end up costing 53.28 after conversion. If I had bought it at Amazon.ca for example- it would be 39.99 * 15% tax and no shipping cost = about $46.

$10 to shipping to get the box from Stardock - and overall I will end up paying $17 extra.

The Stardock Store site says that it's only $5 shipping in North America, so you can shave a bit off that price.

Stardock can not compete with its own customers (stores), hence they will only sell at the MSRP. Notice that Galciv 1 is still $40 on it, even though it's bargain bin material now.

Ahm, you DO know that you can order GalCiv2 at the TotalGaming Network for 5 tokens (which "coincidentally" will cost you $39.95)? I guess that will be my choice because it is the cheapest way to get the preorder version here in Germany.

edit: In case you're wondering: I'm going for the "download only" to avoid shipping costs and taxes.
