Colorblind players

Did anyone play the game who was color blind? If so, how was the UI? Were there options that would allow you to custom change the game control colors? I'm not talking about the colors on planets/ships/whatever (I'm kinda making stuff up, I've only seen screenshots and the reviews of the AI), all I really want is a game that allows me to change the colors of the game buttons. Frankly, being a color blind gamer sucks, and I would hate to dish out the cash for a game that turns out to be unplayable (again). Thanks in advance for any feedback.

All of the game's UI elements are Desktop X objects, so they're modifiable with the free download of Desktop X. Also, you can change the UI's overall colour when you set up a custom race, if I recall correctly.

While the game may not ship with an interface that's especially friendly to color-blind players, the technology used to create the interface is such that an interface could certainly be designed that would be easier on your eyes. As mentioned above, the software needed is a quick download from Stardock, and you could even make your own interface.

I think that the default AI colors can be changed in the XML files that initialize those races.

No matter what race you choose, you can allways recolour the U.I to something of your choosing

And for that matter, Ship colours as well.

You can also modify your raceconfig.xml file to change the colors for the other aliens, and some of the colors for things like the trade text and research category colors I store in the prefs.ini file, but the ones in the prefs.ini file are stored as 32 bit color values instead of in RGB, so you'd have to know how to edit those.
