European retail ?

Hello all

This is my first post here, so I'll swiftly introduce myself.
In the past, I greatly enjoyed TBS games such as Age of Wonders and space sims like the Mac game Escape Velocity.
Unlike many of the MoO2 oldbies in here , I have little experience with other games from smaller devellopers, or with the 4X genre for that matter.
When I was introduced to this little gig ( thx to Tycho @ Penny Arcade ) I nearly wet myself.
Two of my long lost loves combined in a single game : something like
Escape Velocity : The Age of Galactic Civilizations 2. Sweeeeeeeeeet

After removing excess quantities of saliva from my mousepad, I realised it wouldn't be easy getting all the pre-order preciousness (is that a real word ?) in my greedy paws.
The problem is, in Europe (or at least here in Flanders) credit cards are much less common then in the States. Last time I had to make an on-line order (4 years ago?) I contacted a friend of a friend of the neighbors. He recently passed away throwing stones at an angry bull. Or maybe I just lost track of him. Either way, it isn't easy for me to order stuff on-line (from the States). In Europe the (transcription / transfer / whatever / overschrijving in Dutch) system is commonly adapted, but not so in the States.

So after a lot of spam and lame jokes, I finally get to the point :
Can you give me a list of European retailers that will carry the game (and accept pre-orders! ) ?
The easiest way to get something is still ye good 'ol shop.

Thank you for your patience, and have a good day,

Jan
( Also know as Jean, John, Ivan, Juan, Jaan, "that handsome guy across the street" and "My liege" in different parts of Europe. )

Alas, no.  Paradox Interactive (http://www.paradoxplaza.com/) is our European publisher for GalCiv II, so you'd have to ask them for that info.

Ok thanks for the link... I'll check it out.

Just a quick question to ease my worrying self :
There ARE European retailers that carry the game right?
Ones that accept pre-orders hopefully ?

Greeting, Jan

Well, from the looks of your post your dutch. I am too!!

And I just used a creditcard to preorder it directly from stardock. It shouldn't be that much of a problem to get a creditcard nowadays... I can't say for sure because I used my dad's creditcard

You missed the word "Flanders" in my post. I'm Belgian

Seems you're in luck though. None of my family members (including uncles and aunts) have credit cards.
I find myself wishing I was Dutch for the first time in my life

Meh. We still have the best beer.

You can also have a friend with a credit card order it and have them email sales@stardock.com from the email address they've ordered under and have it switched to another one. We also have PayPal as an option this time around.

As I found out however, you still need a credit card to use PayPal (a "certified address" is required, and PP won't certify it without a CC number).

Noooo, don't betray Flanders!!

I used to have the burden of having no credit card as well, so when I got my job it is one of the first thing I did. So if you want you could wire the money to me and I'll order it for you, naturally this requires trust so it's up to you. You can contact me through msn (guygeeraerts@hotmail.com) and we'll see if we can sort something out.

Bank transfer/Internet banking works for me

1) Maybe I should check PayPal... whether or not it needs a credit card number.
It seems there's some uncertainty about this.

2) Thx Guy for the patriotic pat on the back
I'll contact you when all else fails.

3) I contacted marketing@paradox yesterday.
You can only order with credit card at their site so that doesn't help me.
However, they told me the game will also be sold through retail in Europe.
Next week they'll send me an updated list of all the distributors (their subcontracters?) and / or retailers in Europe.
I'll post that list on the forum so that other Europeans who lack credit cards will know where to pre-order.

Thx for all the feedback guys, I'm starting to love this forum

PS : Listening to Praga Khan - Tausend Sterne
I love that song, think I'm gonna make it my GC2 theme song hehe.
