pre-order download

I am very new to this forum, so I hope you will excuse me if these questions have already been answered.
I will buy the game ASAP and, as it usually takes quitea long time before new games arrive in Italy, I am planning to buy the downloadable edition ( i don't care about localization).
-will the downloadable be exactly the same as the reatil cd, i.e. will it have cinematics and everything ?
-what does it mean that the pre-order edition will have "additional ship parts"; will the ship customization workshop have more options or what ?
-should the download go wrong, will I have to buy a new one or will I be allowed to download again( giving proof of purchase, of course)?
-will it be possible to burn a copy on a cd, as a back-up?
Thank you

Yes. But I hope you have a very good interent connexion

The download is made throught Stardock Central, using your e-mail and a serial Id. Once you have your serial id, you will be able download the game, any updates. The serial Id is the proof of your purchase. And stardock central had a mecanism to resume download that have gone wrong

will it be possible to burn a copy on a cd, as a back-up?

Yes, Stardock Central allows you to create archive of a game. After that you can burn that archive on a cd. Naturally, to read the archive you need Stardock Central

Yup, as Peace Phoenix said you'll be able to re-download your copy of GalCiv II at any time using Stardock Central and the downloadable version will contain all the elements of the retail game. Of course, if you'd like a retail copy also, you can order that from us directly and still download the game too.

I have ordered the downloadable version. Is it although possible to "upgrade" to the boxed version? What will you charge for that? What will shipping to europe cost?

Shipping to Europe costs $10, the game costs the same as the downloadable version.

And I think you'll have to mail sales@stardock.com for upgrading, but I'll let a stardock employee confirm that

Just curious- will the game, when it's released, be avaliable for download at midnight, or some later point in the day?

If it's the late Feb release they're saying, I'll be on a mid shift- 7p,-7am, and could head home, DL, and have it finish when I wake up...

I really like that you're allowing us the DL option- more companies should do this.

most companies are too afraid of loseing money so they put in tons of antipiracy programs that really make it a hassal to buy the game legitimately with the hassal of having to use cd codes and other antipiracy programs, what is really funny is that within a couple hours of release these antipiracy programs are cracked and on illegal servers for download so the ppl that buy it ligit get to deal with horrible antipiracy programs while the ppl that steal it get to play it free of hassal

and they wonder y piracy is so big...

(well it shouldnt be big in the first place since ur stealing and there is no excuse for that but this kinda stuff just antagonizes it)

Not all developers are big fans of CP/DRM, but generally the publishers insist on it. One of the many reasons Stardock is self-publishing this time (not to be outweighed by the fact that publishers tend to give them the big ol' goose egg when it comes time for the royalty cheque)...
