Galaxy Size

Could someone in beta (gamma) comment on the size of the galaxy i.e. how many planets are there in a small/medium/huge galaxy (if those are the size classes).

I am sure this has been commented on before but unfortunately I have found no search function on the forums.

Thanks.

Depends a whole bunch on what you select in the start of the game from uncommon, occasional, abundant... etc... etc... this has an effect on both stars and planets (one of the key ways of getting rid of all the class 0 planets is to play with the startup data on planets) speaking of which, getting rid of them can save your bacon if your AI enemy gets that random event that gives two sectors from star system all the planets are now 10!

PS: I believe the gamma testers are not allowed to comment on what they are seeing and testing.

Thanks but if you want to max out the galaxy with as many systems as you can would it then be 10 systems or rather 100 systems?

I asked Cari this one day and, in theory, on a Gigantic map with all settings set to Abundant there could be as many as 5,000 planets.

On most games where I max out options to get inhabitable planets, I get hundreds of inhabitable planets. My current game, where every inhabitable planet I know if is settled, there are 416 inhabited planets, for example.

There will always be a fair number of class 0 worlds on a map - it's part of the game that you have to get the good worlds.

Based on my own experience, I could easily see a Gigantic map game of GalCiv II with all the races taking over a month to complete if you played a few hours a day.

I like playing on a large galaxy size with all races but don't have it set to abundant. With all those planets it makes money an irelavent gameplay factor in the mid game and onwards, because you have so much cash.

Every star, on average, has 5 planets. At the most frequent planet usability, roughly 1 out of 5 of the worlds will be a usable world (it's slightly higher from my small sample testing). So, for a gigantic map at most/most/most settings, you are looking at about 1000 usable planets, before any random events. (Based on CariElf's numbers as reported by Yarlan ). Of course, that's near max amount of stars. On average, it's a fair bit lower, but still many, many worlds. Much more then on a gigantic map in GC1.

I Don't think it would make money irrelevant. You would have to keep building bigger and bigger fleets to match your opponents.

over a month to complete

And hopefully it wont take that long to end a turn either
