Question about weapons in combat...

(just hypthetical, I'm not in the beta, but have played galciv 1 extensively)

If I have a battleship with laser cannons and I am attacked by 12 fighters, does my battleship fire one laser cannon at a time until it kills a fighter and then moves on to the next, or does it fire all 12 at once?

At its turn, the battleship fires all its weapons at a single target.
