Are empire placements totally random? I started out against 4 opponents on gigantic.. when I explored out to my influence border, I also had 2 opponents's borders touching mine. This is very early game, not even a colony ship built yet.

There's supposed to be a system to spread out the races a bit, guess its either broken or needs tweaking.

I'd like to see larger maps. I know, its more overhead but gigantic doesnt seem big enough

I believe that the current map sizes are "smaller" then the planned final versions. IIRC, the reason for that is to allow better control over testing while GC2 is in Beta.
