Beta 4 is not out yet. When it is released, you'll be able to find the answer to your question by watching the bug reports come in on this forum.

In beta 3 it was probably the magically disappearing turn button bug.

But as stardock have been working hard on fixing as many bugs as possible hopefully we won't see any beta 3 bugs reappearing in beta 4. We can but hope.

for me: AI beating the shit out of me cos my custom ships SUCK! >< Globally The Turn bug is worst anyways i was wondering if you guys were gonna deal with custom ships so:
1)They can fit more weapons and stuff and possibly be Multi-use (IE:Landers that are The equivlent of a battle cruiser)
2)As engines get More advanced they get A)Faster B)smaller C)Cheaper
3)A)minaturzation increases hulls? B)or makes weapons smaller? If A)engines should not be forced to increase in size! anyways im just puting in what i consider most about beta4 and of course the turn bug will die! i feel very strong about the custom ships balancing as beta 4 will be about true fun (without "" for once!) ETC. Fill in any ideas...

Well game balancing is meant to start in beta 4 as the previous beta's were technically technology tests.

Miniaturisation tech makes modules smaller.

More advanced engines get smaller and cheaper, to make the ship go faster you add more engines. That's intentional, not a bug. Can't remember now but there might actually be some faster engines near the end of the tech tree, but I'm not sure. I've only played a couple of games that far in due to bugs like the disappearing turn button getting hugely irritating or corrupted save games. But hey, hopefully those are fixed now.

uhh Heard of jet engines vs.Prop engines? May be more jet engines but one on one one jet engine PWNS a propller engine though a jet engine is more expensive and jets are larger...
(sorry if i confuse someone so i explain):
as tech advances Most times it gets more expensive But more powerfull and less bulky-This is what is suspoed to be done not:Better tech Smaller cheaper-not true my freind not true.(back to retardation): Now maybe several versions of engines can come out from one tech a smaller cheaper one so you can put more engines on-Though you may only be able to fit one ONE engine on a decent hull just so you can put some weapons on. sorry if im speeking to early but this is important to note! anyways so i suspect that it would just cause problems and it would be easier to not put any engines on a captial hull just so it can be formidable... so i REALLY hope something is worked out... uhhh one more thing to note even with minaturazation making mods smaller still won't help unless you got best stuff anyways... and one more bloddy freaking thing that i think REALLY should be done:As technolgy advances i recomend that engine tech can spilt up so you get 2 two things: a cheaper smaller engine that has equal effectivity or a smaller MORE EXPENSIVE but more powerfull(me, i waste no money in my military construction when i get to buliding it!). so maybe 2 can be done to compliment both parties i like the first but i also like the second Makes for good stragety(More engines cheaper or less engines bout' the same price but a slighltly faster ship Your results may vary!)

Ok two things.

1. You're taking the engine concept waaaay too literally. Deep breaths.

2. That was the most coherent post you have written on ths forum!

Since we're on the topic of shipyards and game balancing ...

One of the problems that I recall with the old Shipyards feature for Galactic Civilizations for OS/2 was that it was hard or impossible to design ships that were better than the standard ships unless you maxed them out with weaponry, defenses, and engines. For example, suppose you wanted to build a cheap, fast, attack ship with little or no defense. By the time you loaded it up with enough engine power to make it fast it was already more expensive than one of the standard ship classes. Same thing if you wanted to make a cheap small tough ship that couldn't move much, by the time you loaded it up with defenses and a few weapons it was more expensive and still weaker than one of the standard ships. On the other hand, if you loaded up a ship to the max and didn't mind the price you could build some really tough, fast, ships. Until you got the Avatar, that was, there was no way any of your ships could be more powerful than that.

Anyway, I'm hoping that the new shipyards design features will allow more flexibility and that it can be balanced well enough to avoid that problem.

DAmnit i really hope so... That is so unfair that...well stuff i hope its sorted out so its easier to make Supeiror Ships For about the same or more cost Making for great flexiblty.... and i really empathize making the engine parts Easier to place on a ship but they should be faster (Sigh,ONCE AGAIN as technogly advances stuff gets faster smaller better ETC. But it does get more expensive as the tech backing it is a bit more complex BUT ALSO GETS CHEAPER AS WELL! so i recomend somthing That makes engines smaller anyways) WHATEver im a new Lowa11 so things should get a bit better. *shakes head and walks away muttering somthing*: Such instablity in the federation...And it all started with a disagreement so many MANY years ago in the early 21st century.... *shuts up and leaves* *then wants the beta4 badly*
