is there any kind of manual online?

just downloaded the beta 3 and am having some trouble figgering out what works what....
is it all point and click or are there necessary (or even helpful) keyboard commmands?

No manual as of yet but there are some keyboard shortcuts for the BETA...do a search on this forums and you'll find what you're looking for.

Try digging out the readme file, it might help give you a few pointers.

the readme was all release notes, and if there's a thread within the first ten pages or so i must have missed it....

currently reading through some GalCiv (original) guides looking for carry-overs.....
