Just Installed Vista

Glassy Aero not on by default?

Hi! I just installed Vista (don't know why I waited so long)...

I've been stuck with the metallish blue look, and could find any way to make it glassy. My video card is fine.... (it actually has a good driver)....

Is there a way to turn this on? What am I doing wrong?

how much HDD space does it take up?

I heard the 1st beta wasn't for much else than compatability issues with hardware and software, maybe the new gui isn't in there yet. I want to see what it looks like but i'm not a microsoft subscriber and I'm not paying 200 bucks for the beta

The question has to be how did you get your hands on a beta meant for developers/IT professionals who have a TechNet + or MSDN subscription?

Fuzzy...can you say 'P2P'?....

What am I doing wrong?

Using illegal software, that's what you're doing wrong

P2P? Is that Shakespeare?

"Ah, to P or not 2 P, that is the question..."

Fuzzy enters smirk mode...

Given the sentiment against piracy around here, it beats me why you'd openly brag like this....you'll gain no respect

If you have a nVidia card you need to download the Vista aero glass nVidia drive. Google it.

Y'all need LDDM drivers from ATI or nVidia. If after a reboot the Aero theme is still not there, use Tweak Vista (google it) to tweak the registry and enable the transparency, blur and all the transition effects that make up Aero glass (you still need LDDM drivers). Good luck! The new GUI is on by default. Supported graphics adapters will get it right away, others will have to download the beta drivers from their vendor's website, which add support for additional adapters (integrated graphics...).
The Windows Vista installation alone requires about 5GB.

Is the LDDM NVidia Vista driver and

Is the LDDM ATi Vista driver.

For all we know, he bought the beta. I noticed that we have gone beyond discouraging illegal downloading. Now, people textually mob anyone claiming to have a Windows Vista or any other moderately expensive piece of software. I believe that were I convicted of anything, I would like to be innocent before guilty.

Anyone 'legit', that is a TechNet+ or MSDN member would not ask such basic questions

While I agree there do seem to be some assumptions made here,

Anyone 'legit', that is a TechNet+ or MSDN member would not ask such basic questions

is a pretty good indicator. The usual method of support would be to ask at TechNet rather than here.

I wonder how The Phlash feels about the way this thread has developed, and why he/she hasn't returned to clarify the assumptions?

For 200 bucks, anyone could be

If you were 'convicted of anything' then you would have been found guilty.....it means the same thing....Spell checker

As for 'innocent'...you may be 'presumed' innocent before conviction...but not in every country on the planet.  In some you are required to prove your innocence...the prosecution is NOT required to prove your guilt....

Some people here do have a point. You guys tend to attack anyone who even hints that they pirated something.

More care in phrasing would be advisable. However I do second 47songs observation that Phlash has not reappeared

Then perhaps they should not hint that they pirated something. It's simple, I could very easily get a copy of Vista from work as we are MS certified gold partners and have everything that MS releases but if I were to do so I would use the TechNet or MSDN support lines for getting help. I mean folks here are obviously computer savvy but let's be honest, if I had a porsche I wouldn't take it to a Ford dealer to get it fixed, I'd go straight to the maker to get my issues resolved. Unless of course I had stolen the porsche and then I might try the Ford dealer just to see if they might know how to hot-wire a porsche...

Admittedly, the assumptions started pretty quick but it seems they may not have been wrong in this case.. Jury is still out but it's not looking good for the defendant.

Also if I may say from my own observation, would an IT pro/beta tester of Vista say "I don't know why I waited so long!) Come on, it's beta 1, s/he should know it's not a full-fledged OS, and really as of now isn't good for much more than testing.

What country is that? Can you imagine being giulty already and be convicted in a country that spies on its population and says to you 'well your not doing anything wrong so it doesn't matter if we tap your phones, internet and wi-fi connections'?

Anyway... s/he is an unknown person who could be a spy from the planet nebulon to test if earthlings have deduction powers to see through their secret plan.

As far as spotting software piracy goes, call it a sixth sense

I wouldn't use vista if the beta was free - my notebook hasan adverse reaction to bug spray. I'll wait for the final release and then I'll wait some more, observing, inputting. As far as P2P, there's a nasty little virus that attaches itself to such freebie downloads and deletes all sorts of critical stuff, and no antivirus software can catch it. Just deserts. Beware all ye pirates. Besides, I'm delighted at playing with WB5 and quite content.

Lo The Phlash

Please explain what you are trying to do.

Are you testing the Vista skin or are you running the Vista OS?

If you are testing the Vista skin you can't get it to look transparent
without it being updated to use with WB5.

Let me know
