June Game of the Month is now up

http://home.epix.net/~mcasey

While the AIs are all set to Normal, I think this one should be a bit harder than last month. The map will likely put you in an underdog position in the beginning of the game.

Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, etc. about the game or website. But be gentle on the website, it's the first one I've ever made. :)

Good luck everyone, and please try NOT to give anything away in this thread before July 1st!

I think I'll give it a try. :)

One question: I've got a few extra events installed - all balanced stuff from the library here. Is it okay to play with them or do I have to delete them? That would be some work, Im afraid...

Just finished it - Alliance victory in February 2196. I won't tell more here, of cause, but I made a long AAR with many screenshots. I'll send it to you. :)

Thanks russell. I'll add those next time I'm home.

Yellowsign: You did a lot better than I did. Alliance victory in 2232. Which is nice, because I don't think I would've teched by the fifty year deadline.

Whoops. I keep logging in through my brother's account. Anyway, I just barely scraped by. Probably one of the most interesting games I've played yet, though.

Hmm, a (dumb) question about this hardcore/ironman rule:

This is a rule of honor, or is there a setup option hidden in the game?

I love reading this AARs

I hope a future version of Galciv will have a history
summary feature of your civilization much like CIVILIZATION 1 had!

Well done! I'll give it a try next week!

:HOT:

I cannot find this game on galciv.reallyrules.com Is anyone managing the site?

Galaxor: Honor system.

Binsbergen: Please just use the link listed above. I'm not sure who's in charge of galciv.reallyrules.com at this point; dikdirk started it, but he left town. If whoever has it sends me the ftp password, I'll update the site from there.

cheers

I played. Military victory in Aug 2201. A bit too easy to my taste.

Would be cool michael! I am reading some old posts and think Ellestar has the information.

LDiCesare: i hope it is easy because I am really new to the game

LDiCesare: I figure since the really good players have the Masochist Challenge (which might be over, I'm not sure) and the Metaverse rankings to compete over, the Game of the Month can be for us unwashed, unloved "Normal" difficulty players to compete at something.

Next month's difficulty will be Challenging, which is probably still not high enough difficulty for a lot of people here.

On the other hand, for a lot of other people it is.

yeah, my masochistic gotm aar: i played a bit, then the enemy crushed me.

Well, I'd really like to see something in between - normal is a bit easy for me, but masochistic... I tried it one or two times and I didn't have a chance. :notsure: ;p

But for me, the main reason I participated at the GOTM was not to be the best, but to have the possibility to compare how different players handle the same scenario, I think a lot can be learned from that. :)

the one thing I like about the GOTM

when I just play a game on my own, I don't play all the time 100% focused... meaning I'll be playing along, and "oh did I forget to do such and such?? oh well, I'll just do it now, not big deal... "
... but with GOTM, I am paranoid EVERY turn!! :) "have I done everything correctly and efficiently as possible before I hit that end-turn button??? I am playing FOR REAL here!!" LOL

Yellowsign, I hope you saw my aar (though it's just text, I still have to understand how to take a screenshot), as we played totally differently. Admittedly, I didn't make much use of the trade bonuses we got.
Maso is a bit too hard for almost everybody. It was just 'how do you get crushed'...

This GOTM would be great to ease me back into Galciv (have stopped for a while). Will play it tonight. I'll probably be too lazy to take screenshots and stuff but could write a short AAR.

well thanks Michael Casey for the GOTM !

I finished in 2212 with a Cultural Win, not sure if that is good or bad, but I had alot of fun playing !!!

I hope you do it again next month, and as you said in a previous post, "bump up the difficulty level" :)

thanks again Michael Casey for hosting/organizing

Thanks for the game, Michael. Slightly easy for me but it was a good workout.

Military Victory - 2188.

LDICesare:
Yeah, I read your report, pretty interesting. I can't discuss it more specific now while the challenge is still running, but one thing that immediatly caught my eye was that a certain star system (I think you knwo which one I mean) played a very important roll in both our games.
About screenshots: Just pres the "Print Screen"-key, then open a new file in Paint or another graphic program and paste it. That's all. :)

Ray:
2188, wow, that was pretty fast!
