That was weird

I got the message saying something like 'There is something evil growing on planet x, we advice you to abandon the colony' or whatever.

So I did the only logical thing and loaded an autosave and thought no more about it.

I seems that I did not go back far enough because a bit later the planet broke away fom me.

On the turn they split away I talked to them and was a tad alarmed to see they had just under 150,000 bc, also they hadn't worked out yet that they were at war with me. For a laugh I offered them a trade good for 100,000 bc, it was green, so I upped it to 140,000 for 1 month (ie 280,000 bc) which they went for!

The next turn they paid the final installment, found themselves at about -130,000 bc with little hope of recovery, a Dreadnaught, an Overlord and the realization that they were at war with me. I however had over 1/4 million bc to play with. Needless to say I got my planet back within 3 turns.

From then until the end of the game I was running at 100% spending, at the end when I should have been given the score I got a CTD instead.

When that happens to one of my planets I usually build a colony ship on that planet and move the entire pop off but don't disband your colony. Wait for that evil to take the planet then get a troop transport and take it back ASAP.. ;) Was it Precursor's or DreadLords? They're kinda dumb but a pain in d arse.

Listen Strek!
What you missed was a Draginol event, why u missed? Because you could have "milked em" 140,000bc for 50 turns! that makes something like 7,000,000 bc ;)

Sometimes when you offer them a peace they might have agrees with all the bc they have, if not? offer them a TG what you did, but still try to push them to the max. offer them a tech or something, basicly your main aim is to offer anything just to get all they money... and then as your saw there is no finnancial problem whatsoever, you dont have to wait and build things- you buy them!! ;)

And thats in your interests to protect them... while they are paying...bribe everyone else to make a peace with them!

This was on a small galaxy near the end of the game. There just weren't enough planets to forego one, anyway the 280,000bc I got from them outlasted the game, even at 100% spending, so further milking would have been superfluous and greedy, hardly honourable or judicious behaviour ;)

While this can be exploited, I suspect the exploit was not what was in the developers minds when they wrote this bit as the CTD would seem to indicate.

even at 100% spending

there are ways how to run an economy on 100% and still make profits, without having any bribed! ;) And not rising taxes above 40%

But hey this is the best event in hole game... i just hate it when it comes up on the best planet you've got!

Why some like Swiss cheese: holes big enough to drive terror stars through. No one should be able to milk anyone for that kind of cash, especially as easily as the Dragonal can be exploited. Ouch!

It sounds more like a bug than a feature to me.

Couldn't agree more. It has the unmistakeable odour of cheese, possibly Limberger with a hint of Port Salut.

I ran into the Draginol tonight. Took 'em for all they were worth 'cause I could. Then I went to the minor race - "speak to screen" and hit the fist button and it turns out they were at war with themselves... They appear to be rather dull. :d

dull as in they were at war with themselves and would rather give me 5000bc a mo. for 20000months rather than 100bc for 0.
