Good/ evil difference

I have enjoyed playing good, evil, and neutral. They are all a little different so check them all out over due time.

From a strategic point of view, the benefits of good (more likely to exchange trade, a trade booster wonder, trade centers planet improvement, more likely to ally, and immunity to the fundamentalists minor AI) may lend a benefit over the entire galaxy.

The evil choice may lend a benefit mostly on one planet in the galaxy (like a nice big PQ boost) and actually cause problems over time (less trade and watch out for the fundamentalists).

This is a generalization of sorts but some might find good a little easier on big maps with abundant habitability while evil might be easier on smaller maps or rare habitability.

Some of us are unable to pass up the PQ boosts or morale boosts so start off evil. I usually go evil until I get the +1 trade route, then go to good and get the same +1 trade route for good. I stay good enough the fundys don't get me. So far those seem the major strategic advantages of good & evil to me. Can't have too many trade routes or too many bc but those fundamentalists can wreck a good party. LOL.

Unless you decide you want to earn a 'Pure Good' light blue smiley on your character profile, in which case submitting evil games is a bad idea.

The difference between your morality and that of any particular AI seems to affect how fast your relationship degrades...

It was always implied that good AIs would be nice to you if you were good, but being evil didn't help your relations with other evil races much. After all, if being evil was as useful diplomatically as being good, what do you gain for suffering all the penalties for goodness?

I can't say about the differences in my empire (I play primarily good) but I CAN say about the AI's. See, here's the difference:

When the Drengin launch an unprovoked war against my peaceful, good civilization to crush my fragile planets and add them to their growing empire, they say something about death furnaces, and then launch their ships.

On the other hand, when the ALTARIANS launch an unprovoked war against my peaceful, good civilization to crush my fragile planets and add them to their growing empire, they say something about having things in common - specifically, again, my planets... and then launch their ships.

See? Big difference, there...

So, is that a good or a bad sign when both the altarians and the drengin decide to crush you in the same game??

I like the new (I assume) message that I just saw in this version. The Altarians made it clear that they weren't declaring war on the people of the United Earth empire, but rather fighting to free them from my tyranical regime. LOL
