Computer Opponent overspending

I am playing in campaign mode and am against gephart. His character continues to overspend, what I estimate as the amount that he currently posseses. If this is the case, how is it capable of doing this, and why?

Is there any way to fix this?

I suspect that the computer tends to cheat on higher difficulties. I did an experiment to try to prove this:

First, I created a custom candidate with zero stamina. I tried to play as him, and couldn't leave his home state of Alaska because I needed a point of stamina to fly to another state. My opponent (I think it was Adlai Stevenson) won every state except Alaska, and got something like 97% of the popular vote. Then I played against the candidate on Masochistic. After a few weks, he was able to not only leave Alaska, but build a HQ in another state (I think it was Illinois). At that point, I knew that the computer cheats with stamina on higher difficulties.

Well, it remembers me some threads on the Galciv Forum about AI cheating or not. For Galciv, the computer play the same game than you BUT there are some abilities tweaking for the difficulty: more bonus on all stats, more income.

I guess that Stardock should explain clearly what it considers cheating for the AI and what is linked with difficulty. I don't think that the modification of stats at the beginning of the game should be call cheating. It is just an handicap. Something along the line: You can figth with 2 arms, I will fight with just one, and I will win.

I don't see how you could expect some difficulty level (to easier the game or make it more difficult) if the AI hasn't some advantages (making it more difficult for you) or disadavantages (making it easier for you).

I suspect the AI has to cheat because any AI is not going to match up to a human player. How many games have you played against an AI when they put TV ads in Montana?

Whoa! Big surprise! A computer that cheats against humans?! I've known about this since my Nintendo NES days. The computer always cheats. But whoman69 makes a good point. I mean, I've seen Level 2 HQ's built in Alaska and TV ads to match. Without the "cheating" the AI wouldn't stand a chance against advanced human players. So while I loathe it on principle, I also enjoy playing the game often and without some "cheating" it would get boring watching landslides all the time.

Yeah, I guess you're right. They are decades away from making an AI that can consistently beat me, the master of all things Political Machine.
