What do you do when all the other empires are at war with you?

my first game which ive lasted longer than an hour. economy doin great, bringing in 3000bc each month, and my people are happy and reasearch is.....well ive practically nothing more to reasearch. then the Yor attack for no reason at all, then everyone else joins in too cos thier all best friends. im situated right smack down in the middle of them all and its pretty late in the game so everyone has LOTS of ship( overlords and shit like that). Any tips....PLEASE!?

p.s. ive trided bribing to no avail

Reload to a save-game before you were at war. Check out your relationships with the AI. Did you let them slip to hostile? If so, bribe the AI to get them to not attack you. Try to keep them neutral or better and check it every few turns. Try to figure out what caused them to attack you. For example, did you have a military ship in one of the AI's sectors?

It is really hard to defeat the AI when ALL of them are at war with you and won't accept a bribe for peace. Do you have any military? Can you knock out their transports until you can get a peace treaty? Do you have any diplomacy so they listen to you? The AI likes to attack military weaklings. Strategies also depend on what level you are playing and map size.

Hope this helps. Good luck. :)

thnx for the reply. ill try reloading like u say.
"did you have a military ship in one of the AI's sectors?"
yes i did. i had quite a few in their sectors. this is a complicated game lol and as for the military weakling....thats me! most my fleet was made up of battleaxes and frigates...I should have built a proper fleet earlier and knocked off one or two of em
thnx

Or bribed them to engage in war against each other. This helps keep them busy and does serious damage to their economy and military ratings.
Or go the other route and do alot of trade business with them so that attacking you is like attacking their own economy.

Hope this helps

yeah u'd think that.....but y'd be wrong(i think).all the economies were heavly dependent on me. 2 empires were making just over 40% of their income from me. but they still went to war cos they were all allies :(

thanks for the sugestion

You said you had alot of ships in their sectors, that was the problem. Think realisticlly about how that would provoke someone, It's like a country putting it's soldiers into another country without permission or war.

I wish there was a diplomatic screen for this little problem. That way you could warn and be warned about warships being in the wrong sectors....

Sometimes they pop-up and warn you -- especially if you set them on guard in their sectors. Check the diplo screen at least every three turns and watch for your relations "silently" slipping.

If you do reload, maybe you should try to bribe the military strongest AI and him to ally with you and this should help the other relations with you and then it might be easier for you to ally with the rest and get the victory

Oh yes, I almost forgot. All of us get clobbered now & then. So don't be afraid, every once in a while, to take your lumps and congratulate the AI for a good game. You can learn from this and get a win next time. Most players don't submit losses to the metaverse so don't feel obligated to do that. :)

also, keep an eye on the military strength graph, dont let it drop below the weakest AI, if it does, almost everyone will declare war on you.

Without reloading I can't think of anything you can do, if they're all allied with each other your fate is sealed . . . sorry :notsure:

Being in the middle is great for trading but sucks the 'big one' if your unpopular . . .

Sounds like you've got a fair understanding of most of the game (trading and whatnot), keeping an eye on relations and manipulating/convincing/buttering up others is however a vital part of the game as a whole . . . good luck to you!

If you had nothing left to research, why not win that way really quick? did you turn off that sort of victory?

And heh, if they had overlords and you only had battleaxes, what the heck were you doing htinking you were a REAL emperor!?? LOL :D

lol..screw u man i only got this game a few days ago. and yes i did have win by research victory turned off:p
ps. no i did NOT have it set at cakewalk. i can sense that question coming up!

Paddy....your the next "generation" of Euro players...you are our future...

As Cotal...the true master...said...you seem to have more than fair understanding of the basics of the game...now go kick some ass LOL

Ok, I give up. Why did you have research victory turned off? Culture victory I can understand, because you could win that way by accident when you were still trying to get that last AI to ally with you or building up to wipe them out. But Research and Alliance you can always pull back from the turn before you win and still have the option open if Military falls through. So why turn it off?

to respond to Aaberq first....yeah i've got a fair understanding but i still have win a feckin game lol

Now PJ....i've always been into the whole war, death and mass destruction side of life so when i saw u could win by other means(ie. pussy options) i turned them off. Makes it easier aswell cos you can consentrate on building fleets and conquering. dose that answer ur question? :notsure:

Bah. Could still concentrate on military and leave the other doors open. Cutting off your own foot is all you're doing. ;p

Trade heavily with those civs of your morality and minor civilisations. In this way you can get lots of money, good relations with reliable allies and ensure that you monopolise trade around you gaining even more money and keeping those civs from getting too friendly with others. Shortly after impulse drive is invented the great goodvs evil battle. Do anything in your power to ensure that your ideology crushes the rival ideology before they unite in an alliance against you. Break the power of the rival ideolody and then make a humiliating peace with them. While the enemy are trying to rebuild their shattered army while their citizens riot in the streets cement relations with your friends with the new trade routes and form and alliance with any major and possibly minor races you are friends with. The game then enters the No Mercy stage. The Allied factions descend upon the remnants of the opposing morality. No lasting peace will be offered to the enemy as the AI senses victory is near. Starved of trade by your monopoly the impoverished reminents of enemy's militery should be crushed untill the enemy civilisations surrender to you giving you an alliance victory. It worked for me and one me my first Metaverse victory.
